Sad Small Driver Install Problem!

Im on 98SE , just formatted drives today and for the first time installed the kx drivers (never tried them before) anyway the software installed , but when it come to the driver install , it asked me for the win 98 cd for vjoyd and msjstick , somthing like that , but it wouldnt take the files from my win 98 cd , it said i needed permission or somthing.

I got a couple of messages saying error try installing the driver again , and the somthing about WMM.

I dont know but after a couple of reeboots , the devices showed up in device manager and it says they are working propperlly , and all the kx software looks like its installed.

Would someone mind telling me what the hell the installation was playing at ?

Do i have to unzip the Base 6.zip from the win 98 cd and put those files on a different cd or somthing ?

Well confused , please put me straight.

Regards
Rob

It asked you for joystick drivers... ( i dunno why it said to you about thouse... hmm.. err.. permissions...)

Well, just check probably if those "vjoyd" and "msjstick" are in system directory and jostick is ok in controlpanel/devices...

Everything else is ok...

also see Is there still problems with 98se?

Well, typically not... you can copy this file somewhere into hdd and put windows there when it will ask you fo it next time... But typically there're no problems with that - just make sure tha twindows can really access cd-rom etc...
(btw. actually windows ask not for cd-rom itself but for folder where it was installed from (for example it could be hdd) so even it says "CD" it actually checks that "installed from" place...)

Yeah thanks max , everything seems to be fine and working correct , and device manger looks all cool.

Bassically when it asked for files from my 98 cd , i put it in , then directed it through the browse function , but it said , you need permission to open that file from 98 cd ?

So is what you saying , is for me , next time it asks for 98 cd , point the browse function to the C://Windows/system folder instead of putting 98 cd in ?

that really confuses me... i've never seen such kind of messages from 98se... so hmm.. "why you don't have pernmissions to open file from CD?"

Well, not exactly... but this trick will work if it looks for filess that are already in windows/system... e.g. if he asks you for joystick files next time you really can tell it to go to system dir.

Also if files it asks for are not in systems, widows will be angry... so probaly you can copy those "base5.cab" from cd to hdd and next time put windows there...

Yeah that what i was thinking , copying the base 5 and 6 files to a different cd or to my hdd.

It confused me aswell , why it didnt accept the 98 cd.

My pc is a clean format and correctly setup.
