BMG_Cya=- is on a distinguished road

??? Maybe someone can provide insight

This hurts my eyes just to look at it...

A firend of mine has been having some trouble with is ASUS CD/DVD RW-Burner...

I'll let his explanation speak for itself.
Quote:
I just bought this CDwriter ASUS CRW-5224A. The technician installed it for me and the Nero Express software. Everything looked fine, software was detecting type of cd, etc. perfectly. So, I tried to burn a CD and while the burning process was on, it said burning process failed at 52X. Anyway, after that, I tried a 24x CDRW disk this time, so I wouldn't waste anymore CDRs. Same problem again. Burning process failed.

Any idea why this is happening? I have attached:-

1) A screen of the error

2) A log file generated at the end of the burn failure of the CDRW(in next post)

Ok, guys, intermittent solution found! Disabling the DMA on both the primary and secondary IDEs lets the thing write in peace but enabling 'em starts the problem again.

Guys, I'm not gonna fiddle around with it on the 'inside' cause even though I know a lot about the other things of a comp h/w, I dont know which parts some of those things you both mentioned even ARE.

BMG, hehe, yea, that was real doofy of me...paying him off before checking everything, but thats ok, cause his boss is a friend of mine, so I'm probably gonna ask him to send that techy over one more time to see whats up.

But any idea of this...as to why its workin with the DMAs disabled?
Anyone see anything right off hand that might cure this guy's ills?

Really appreciate any help.

A few things to try, in no particular order:

- Disable CD-text burning, as it looks like your friend isn't using it

- Find and install southbridge drivers for his motherboard. You'll have to know the chipset of his motherboard southbridge to do this though, as installing the wrong drivers can cause Windows to stop being able to boot. Common motherboard chipset brands include VIA, Intel (no drivers required), nVidia, and SiS.

- Make sure the drive isn't sharing an IDE channel with any other devices that are active while trying to burn.

- Search for updated firmware for the CD burner drive on the manufacturer's web site. Firmware is like a driver that is stored on a physical chip inside the CD drive, but it can be updated via a special program on your PC provided by the manufacturer.
