Documentation: A Project For The Masses
There are a number of people here who would like to contribute to the project, but can't contribute money.
There are people who'd like to help code, but don't know how to code. There are people who want to code for the DSP but don't know where to start. There are people who want to help in any way they can but it seems there's nothing they can do--but there's one area where I think just about anyone can help: documentation. The documentation provided now is a very nice start, but ideally, there should (in my opinion) be a section in the help file for every different use of the cards--a section for Cubase, one for Protools, one for Logic, one for Cooledit, one for all the different applications you might use, and a section for every way you might want to (ab)use your soundcard--multiple soundcards, use as a preamp or mixer insert, digital recording, etc. This forum thread should be a discussion of what would make documentation most useful, and an exchange of information so that the "best" documentation can be written and organized. I'd like to volounteer my services. -Nappylady Email: dr.napalm@attbi.com ICQ: 29072454 AIM: NapalmLady Y!: blobeteer MSN: nappynappylady@hotmail.com |

Nappylady,
I'm in for it. I try to contribute by answering as many questions as I can, but I can't really donate money. I thnk we should start building a list of topics which should be explained better. This way, people who are able to give full detailed answers to them (how-to's with pictures maybe) would volunteer to answer one or more of them. I'll search the forums and find the most frequently difficulties and start a list of possible's "mini how-to's" here. I think there are other users like TravelRec, Riv@nx etc which already have quite good knowledge about KX drivers and can also contribute with this task.

NappyLady,
I'll also offer my assistance. I can't claim to be a total expert but I use my KX drivers for many tasks and am happy to help. I use them with fl Studio and Vegas Video which may be combinations that other people won't have used. I also encode my surround to Pro Logic (yes I'm cheap and havn't gone to proper surround yet!) As well as music I do all the usual DVD watching, Gaming, MP3 playback etc so let me know what needs help with. Neufena www.doublejohngrey.co.uk www.valentinerecords.co.uk |

a nice idea -- it seems to have been flying around since project start
![]() I hope this time it will evolve into something user-friendly ![]() >> Daniel Drummond: a nice list! probably, adding a list of links to the forum threads discussing these topics might be a good start (or just 'copy&paste' )as soon as somebody has his/her question completed, feel free to drop me a message to include it into our help file / FAQ / HowTo etc.. /Eugene |

p.s. [
]perhaps, we could call this 'knowledgebase' (a'la m$) and make it available mostly 'online' (since big screenshots and text files will make the kX driver a larger download) /E |

Yes Eugene, probably all of those questions have already been answered in the forums and getting the info already available may be a good start. Although we'll have to take the time to organize the info available in the forums. A knowledge base (KXowledge base hehe) sounds good. When users ask the same repetitive questions we can just point them to the right place which will avoid explaining things over and over...

KX How to list
Daniel Drummond and all willing:
Please, dont forget How to setup the KX drivers for use in Sonar. Sounds like a great idea, so I hope we Sonar users can get help too. Something like this will save a lot of searching on the forum through so many threads. I remember reading a thread where someone said "There are lots of threads dealing with Cubase, but we Sonar users dont seem to have much we can refer to when it comes to using the KX Drivers/The KX Mixer and Sonar." Thanks for any consideration of us Sonar users in this plan to provide an indexed quasi-documentaion of KX How To, or what ever help this idea develops into. Upload area for docs?
Hi all,
Just started using kX a few weeks ago with a copy of CakeWalk HS '04 and I'm hooked I put together a spreadsheet of all the 3535 plugin tweaks for my use that I'll toss into this stone soup of documentation that's cooking, BUT I don't have my own web page for downloads. Is there a spot in this forum on DH for uploading? I could just include it in a post but it is about 72KB. Paul |

Hmmm, possible...
Hi,
I have made 3 (rather imperfect) skins so far, so I suppose I could contribute on that front. It would take a while though. I found it to be a labour of love all three times and as I said, they are not great. Any comment from other skinners on how best to proceed would be appreciated..... Thanks, Chris McCartney |

Freedom is a feature.

Let's start with a thread on forum, just post info in the posts, and someone can later copy it and HTMLize it. What do you think?

I am currently working on the SIMPLE MUSICIAN'S guide to installing 2 SBLives / KX drivers / N-Track. I'm not even sure how it all works yet but I should by the time I am done. I have some help from 2 other N-Track users.
I plan to explain the whole thing very simply. 1. do this 2. do that 3. If this, then that 4. etc. etc. Doug w |

PlugIn Tweaks spread
Hey, sounds good in theory
but I have 75K of HTMLafter letting Excel get its hands on the table (better than Word which spewed out 310K!) and the maximum in a post is 15K. I don't see a way to do an attachment. S'pose I could split it into sections, but... Let me know, Paul |

I suggest you try any free web-hosting instead (there are a lot of them available) just upload & post a link >> dont forget How to setup the KX drivers for use in Sonar I prefer Sonar, too (especially in ASIO mode with VSTi<->DXi translation plugin)>> Let's start with a thread on forum, just post info in the posts, and someone can later copy it and HTMLize it. not a bad idea. but if anybody is familiar with M$ Word or HTML, one can use them instead --- please, review the following thread: kX Project (re)organization /E |

Sonar help with KX
Hi all:
Mr. Eugene Gavrilov, I'm glad to heare u prefer to use Sonar too. This is good news about users offering help for KX Drivers users in various areas. I really thank you all for your current and future contributions! When I learn more in practical application, I will contribute my know how as well. As of now, I'm a newbee who wants to learn how to use Sonar with the KXdrivers. I've been reading in this forum for over a year now, but I still dont know how to convert my MIDI tracks to Audio or record my mic or line in input seperately (without the other audio tracks recording as well) when I use the KX Drivers. Bouncing around reading thread after thread for help really didnt help me ( kinda became more confused). However, I believe a How To writing on such stuff with screen shots may do the trick,or be more useful, though. In any case, I thank you all for your contributions. Sincerely, thomasabarnes@sbcglobal.net |

Plugin Tweaks v3535
Alrighty, I knew the $5/mo I give to Time Warner was worth something
Here's the link to a table listing all the plugins for version 3535 plus some of Lemury's new plugs. PluginTweaks3535 Bugs or comments gladly accepted. Paul |

Hi there xutrah,
Nice list. One thing though (for the record); kxfxlib.kxl is always from Eugene. I simply "mirrored" that version. Please change that. (I think it was the latest 3535 release IIRC) Keep on the good work.. ![]() /LeMury |

Plugin Tweaks 3536c
All,
I posted a new version of PluginTweaks here PluginTweaks3536 A couple of questions and points: Eugene - On two different systems/OS/cards the FXBus2 plug fails with a "Plugin failed to populate microcode" error. Something special I need to do? LeMury - I don't have an Audigy card so could you verify the k2lt description is close? Al - The Legacy and ProFX sections plugin contents are listed the way they will be. Thanks. As always, comments welcomed. Paul |

Thanks
Eugene - yup, in actuality I did rtfm which is why I reversed 'em
Also, thanks for your monumental effort. This is my small way of paying ya back. Oh yeah, how many outputs does FXBus2 have? LeMury - your note is duly noted Great plugs, I'm using them exclusively(no offence Eugene ) Just FYI here's how I'm using them, way simple setup.http://members.aol.com/xutrah/kX/SetupDSP.jpg Regards, Paul, aka Zoot! |

FXBus32.....FXBus63 = 32 outputs >>LeMury - your note is duly noted Great plugs, I'm using them exclusively >>(no offence Eugene ) Just FYI here's how I'm using them, way simple setup. Eeeh.., to set the record straight; "my" plugins are 99% based on Eugene's and Max's work. We all work for the same project. So there is no 'competition' here. But of course I'm glad you like them. (nice setup btw) /LeMury |

The framework Eugene and Max have put together is quite astounding, if for no other reason than the time expenditure. Hi,
I think this documentation thing is just that kind of a project, which Wiki was made for. For those who don't know, basically wiki is a web page, which is straightly and freely user-editable through a browser. Best example of using of Wiki is Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It should be quite easily implemented with wiki-engines like MediaWiki, which runs on web server cabable of running PHP and MySQL. Last edited by wilho; Nov 20, 2003 at 03:40 PM. |

Wiki is indeed a very good way to write a documentation, because someone can start writing a part and someone else can add or correct things. Isn't it possible to implement such a wiki page on the official kX page (or on de kX development page)?

Standard Disclaimer applies: It's not my project, I'm not responsible, and I'll do my best to not step on those who are actually responsible.
That said, I'd really like to try to steer this discussion towards actually getting things organized. Specifically, I'd like to see if we can get a comprehensive (if not exhaustive) database of cards with which the kX drivers work, with details about the quirks and layouts / pin assignments of each card. This is clearly something that can't be done by one person. I have four cards: SB0100, two SB0220's, and a CT4832. I have the resources, but not the know-how, to figure out the pins and details for these cards; I've already made flatbed scans of the cards. Much information is available, but much is not--the SB0100 has an ASIO routing issue that isn't documented anywhere I can find except a very brief mention in readme.html; I had to decipher the whole thing myself. Surely I should make what I found available to help someone else who might not have the wherewithall to solve this problem. I am on dialup at the moment, but I run a webserver down the street that's hosted on a not-too-bad connection; I'll gladly offer its services for communication and assembling any information we'd like to put together. We've got two pages of posts and nothing else to show for this thread. Let's see if we can get something put together, mmkay? |
