Audigy 2, 6.1 and kX
Hi there!
I`m new to kX project. I`ve tried it and I must say that my first though is "OMG it`s amusing!". But, i`ve noticed fast that it supports only 5.1 sound system, and I`ve got Creative Inspire 6.1 6700 connected to Audigy2 sound cart and my rear center satellite is silent, is any way to upmix sound to support 6.1?
And how about hardware effects that were supported by creative drivers, is there any way to turn them on?
I`m newb, so don`t get angry when I ask You about some lame questions, just give me a link to a page whre I can read answer on my questions.
Thanks in advence, and keep up the good work.

All the effects available in the KX DSP windows are hardware effects. Just experiment with them.

Hi Rogacz,
kX can't support 6.1 simply because nobody in the test team has it.
However, if you want to help having it supported, you can do the following (if you can take a picture with digicam it would be even better):
1) How many connectors to soundcard do speakers have? Are some of them longer?
2) How is rear center connected (please provide as much details as you can, from it to subwoofer, to the card, try to follow the connection logically if possible)?
3) Some details about connectors on the back of the subwoofer could also be helfpul.

I don`t have a digi cam, so I can`t make a foto of it, but I can give You a scheme that has been shipped with my inspire 6.1 sound system. I think it`ll provide You with all informations.

I can help with this too. The Inspire 6.1 speakers are analog so they use the "line out" jacks. Although I only have 5.1 speakers, I can hook up a rear center speaker just for testing. But to help, I need to understand RIV's questions. Why do you care about the connectors? The rear center signal is on the same jack as the front center and sub. It uses a 4-pole rca jack (3-signals + gournd). It should be easy to figure out with a meter. My guess is the last ring away from the tip is the rear center. The "shank" farthest from the tip is the ground.
More significantly, I think we need to use i2s 2L or 2R and we need to design an upmix effect to send a good mix to the correct epilog pin. Accordng to the DSP/IO assignments, it is going to be epilog out30 or out31 (400c and 400d on epiloglt_k2?). i2s 2 is already on the mixer screen.

jack pinout
Rogacz, I looked at your jpegs. the cables should be easy to make. It's the upmix effect that could be tricky. Maybe someone's done this already. I'm fairly new to KX but I wouldn't be surprised if there's already an effect for a rear center upmix.
Here's the sub/center(s) connector pinout. It implies the order from the tip is sub, front c, rear c:

And how about making a mix for rear center which will be a 50/50 from rear right/left?

That's my idea too, and I think it should be possible without any cable modifications.

If hardware supports it, cable modifications shouldn`t be necesary.

I think, since it works with CL drivers, it's about the way drivers are upmixing, so it can be done with kX too.
I can't be sure, so I would like to hear what Eugene thinks, he know best

Right--I was thinking for myself. I have an Audigy2 but no cable that supports a rear center so I will have to make one.

no, 6.1 upmix is not supported at the moment
kX driver doesn't accept 6.1 content -- this will change in the future
meanwhile, you can connect to the epilog.k2i2sleft/epilog.k2i2sright any audio stream you wish
and, if you like custom set-ups, you can try using xrouter's 's' output -- and turn 8-point interpolation by running 'kxctrl -shw 18 4"
anyway, that's black magic at the moment and it is useful only for kX hackers

Yeah, it`s black magic for me. Is there any chance that it will be implemented someday?

I am not aware of the non-driver application that produces 6.1 content.
