a few questions about recording

Quote:
DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit-
ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit-
does that mean that i can record with 18bit?

should i record in 44.1kHz or 48kHz? (does the automatic downsampling do the job?)

what else should i do to improve my recordings?

1. I believe so.
2. 48KHz provides the best quality on the Live, downsample reduces the frequency.
3. Get yourself a very good mic and reduce background noise (IE: kids playing, people yelling, etc...).

no, you cannot
it is currently unclear if the 18-bit sound is truncated or not before it gets into the DSP
however, the DSP allows only 16-bit recording

so, probably, the 18-bit audio data can be processed by the DSP with 24/32/64 accuracy, but it will be truncated to 16 bit before it gets to your audio application

is there anything that can be done about that? cause it'd be really neat to have 2bits more of depth... can we check this somehow? does the dsp currently calculate the fx in 16 or 24 or 32bit resolution?

you cannot record with 18-bit accuracy in most audio applications -- so, I don't see any reason trying to achieve that
anyway, the DSP recording functionality is limited by 16 bit regardless of the codec resolution
moreover, the codec itself isn't a perfect device, so, the two last bits are probably digital noise...

internal DSP processing depends on the actual effects you are using
in general, it is 24/32/64-bit
