External clock, better audio quality?
Hi,
I was wondering has anybody tried to clock Live or Audigy cards from external clock via SPDIF? Does it improve the audio quality of recordings? I think in theory it should, if the external clock is considerably more precise... Other question, does CT4830 have any SPDIF input, which itself converts Coax SPDIF signal to TTL? Like CD_SPDIF does on other versions of Live cards (if I have understod correctly). My card's CD_SPDIF pins are missing. ![]() -wkeisari |

the 4830 comes in different versions. Some, or all of them were OEM Versions for Dell and others and thus poorly supported by creative. Some of them do have a CD SPDIF in and some don´t. If you´re willing to go as far as tracing signals from the 10k1 and solder on the card you might get 2 spdif inputs and 3 outputs.
With 1 in and 3 outs you might be lucky just accessing the pins on the aud_ext. The pinout is documented and easy to find. But they are all on TTL level. So the spdif in won´t just accept any signal unless its TTL level. And thats because the card has a fixed clocking with 48khz and anything that goes in or out of the DSP goes through a sample rate conversion. There is no way arround that. No bittransparent recording and any in and out from the dsp is also truncated to 16 bit. |
