Data in Invalid

Hi guys...first, let me open by saying I have tried ever newsgroup, web page, and all i cant find in the internet world..i just can not get my audigy 1 platnum to work.

I have tried every driver available (the original cd, the newer xp driver, the beta xp drivers, and the KX project drivers..no luck anywhere.)

When i attempt to do a driver setup, it begins to install and then dies with a "the data is invalid" and it is not installed. The card is recognised by the bios in pci slot 3.

I have tried moving the card, deleting the driver, reinstalling, removing registry entries, copying over the driver.cab files, etc etc etc ... and I guess this problem has been caused a lot by permissions in the registry... so, yes, I have tried giving permission to the currentcontrolset/enum/pci, etc...

just no luck anywehre, and it would be such a pain to reinstall the OS.

Please HELP!
