How to Create (or properly modify) Skins?

While I have good graphics experience, I'm not very good at figuring out what's in the .ini files or whatever.

Even with graphics experience, I like certain skins such as the Brushed Aluminum more than anything I could create. It's straightforward, plain english, looks decent etc.

I like the brushed aluminum one skin so much that I took all the graphic insides of the 1.21 version and transferred them over to the graphics-containing folders included in v 3533 drivers package.

The result looks good but has elements of the old and new in there, and there are features that you can click on which happen to overlap

As for me, I'd like to bring that one skin back, but wonder if we could develop a template or some standardization to skin-making?

Thanks,
Joey
