I just had a similar problem. There was a clicking noise that happened while playing any type of audio.
I read through the posts trying to find a solution and nothing seemed to fix it. Last night I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything. The click is now gone. I would like to find a better solution for fixing it than formatting in case it occurs again.
Hope you can find a better solution than reformatting. I am using:
Version: 5, 10, 00, 3533

after going back to 3528, the crackling was gone?
did the crackling only happen with 3533? (rc-1, rc-2, or b?)
and please give us some info on the card and motherboard (in kx, the about screen, hardware/software config, and if you might have a via chipset or something)

he had 3528 - no cracking, updated to 3533 - crackling, re-installed 3528 - crackling remained, how did you go back? did you roll-back or just reinstall them?

K, maybe a longshot, but the KT7 uses a VIA KT133 chipset... there are/have been some problems with VIA chipsets, but I'm not sure if this chipset also has that problem.
I know that the kX driver has/had some sort of fix for this, but I don't know exactly how, what or where. (and not even sure if this info is correct)
Maybe someone else has more knowlege about this issue?
ps. rollback is driver rollback in Windows XP/ME, it is used to reinstall the old version of a driver.
(or even rollback the whole instalation a few days back)

perhaps 'reset settings' and 'reset global settings' might have solved the problem
(or you could try to delete any kX registry entries located in the following registry key:
hkey_current_user\software\kx)
