Hi All,
I'm a Newbie to the forum and KX Drivers in general (um... notice the capital "N"). I've had a heck of a time reducing latency In Reaper v2.44 using an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro (the one with the breakout box) on a Dell 8300 3.0Ghz, 4g ram machine. Was using the Creative WDM drivers with ASIO4all v2 for a month which gave me a passable 7.97ms latency. I should also probably mention that most of my recording is done via SPDIF out of a Roland GT-8 into the Audigy. Yesterday the Creative 5.1 surround capabilities stopped for reasons I cannot fathom. So I finally gave up on the Creative WDM/ASIO4all driver combo (uninstalled all with Driver Cleaner) and went with KX Full package (3538mfull). After trying various options, pouring through the available doc and this site I was able to get sound configured through my 5.1 setup last night (tested with DVD and mp3s thru Medial Player 11), and with output of my SPDIF showing strong and clean through the DSP Peak Meter (as I'm watching it right now all happy with the signal from the GT-8). Issue is that when the "kX ASIO SB0360 10k2 [cf00]" is selected in Reaper Audio config, it keeps coming up with the message "Error initializing ASIO driver". When I open audio preferences, I can see the driver selected, but no associated inputs or outputs. I've tried both the 44100 and 48000 settings. I tried a full clean and reinstall of the KX package twice. Then on a punt move last night (albeit misguided - prolly due to sleep deprivation), I reinstalled the ASIO4all drivers and actually got Reaper to see the audio. However the audio quality was full of ugly digital artifacts, and regardless, I'm sure there must be a way to use just the kx drivers without complicating things with another set of drivers over it. I am about to deinstall 3538mfull and install 3545b-full in the hopes that there may be bug fixes here or there that may help resolve my audio recording issues. Other than that, at this point I'm at a complete loss - Any helpful advice from the kX-Gurus on this site would be seriously appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by SGProd; Aug 20, 2008 at 12:20 PM. Are you able to open the kX ASIO Control Panel?
i.e. (with Reaper closed) From the kX context menu: Settings -> ASIO Control Panel |

Update: Since my last post I uninstalled/Drivercleaned all KX drivers. Then installed the latest-greatest 3545b-full pack. Re-did all my previous settings and established the following: Speaker test - 5.1 works ![]() DVD through Media Player and VLC Player works ![]() GT-8 SPDIF to speakers (and verified thru DSP-Peak) works ![]() ASIO Control Panel opens in kX Manager ![]() Opened Reaper audio config dialog and there are now inputs and outputs designated as:[first - 1: kX In 00]and outputs ranging: [first - 1: kX Out 00]I have [Request sample rate: 48000] same as in kX-Mixer (I also tried 44100 on both sides). Still nothing coming through to the track armed for recording (set up the same as when I just recorded 2 days ago before life in the studio went to audio driver hell) And this is where I'm stuck... Under Master: Master Volume, Wave & MIDI are all unmuted & @ 85 P16V = Coaxial Toggle Swap Frnt> Rear = On Headphones to center/sub = Off Toggle SPDIF Bypass = Off AC-3 Passthru = Off SPDIF Out freq = 48000 Direct SPDIF Record = Coaxial .................................................. ......... Under in& Outs All is at 0/unmuted except CD digital In, Line2 In, Line1 Mic in and Line3 in .................................................. ......... Under Recording: Master Level = 100 AC97 and SPDIF Record level = 0 All others are at muted/inf .................................................. ......... My I/O Status has the following: SPDIF Inputs: [R-Rate Locked; S-Stream Locked; V-Valid Audio] spdif A: 10010a Freq: 44042 [R] [S] || max. 20bits/SR unspec. spdif B: 109204 Freq: 44100 [R] [S] [V] || max. 20bits/SR unspec. spdif C: unused or same as B I2S Inputs: (0): 96000Hz [R] (1): 96000Hz [R] (2): 96000Hz [R] SPDIF Outputs: (0): 2109204 (1): 2109204 (2): 2109204 (24 bits / 48000 Hz) SPDIF Extended status: (0): 24bits/48000Hz (1): 24bits/48000Hz (2): 24bits/48000Hz p16v: PB: (bypass) I2S Out:96000Hz SPDIF Out:bypass) Rec: (0): 0 [u] (1): 0 [u] (2): 0 [u] (3): 0 [u] I haven't changed anything from the default routings. I figure I'll need to re-read the doc at least another dozen times (or 'til my head pops off) before i start mucking with that aspect. Last edited by SGProd; Aug 20, 2008 at 03:12 PM. |

What audio source are you trying to record?
Different sources use different ASIO channels with the default DSP config. ASIO 0/1 (with the default config) is only used with the devices listed at the top of the Recording page of kxmixer (i.e. Wave, MIDI, etc, and only if they are enabled (unmuted, etc) on that page). AC97 sources are routed to ASIO 2/3 with the default config. CD_SPDIF is routed to ASIO 4/5. ... etc (examine the connections between prolog and epilog in the DSP) If you want to route different audio sources to ASIO 0/1, then you need to modify the DSP config. In Reaper if your ASIO input/output options only list 2 possible inputs/outputs, then you probably have the [2+2] format selected in the ASIO Control Panel. To add more I/O's choose a different format (i.e. [8+8] or [16+16], etc). 44.1 kHz can only be used for playback with ASIO, it cannot be used for input, so if you want to record, be sure to use 48 kHz. |

SPDIF In uses prolog In6/In7, but it is connected to ASIO 8/9 on epilog (at least that is how it is with my card), so you would choose ASIO 8/9 in Reaper (or redo the connection between prolog and epilog such that SPDIF is connected to the ASIO channels that you want to use).
The Audigy2 does support 16 ASIO Inputs/Ouputs. You may have to restart Reaper, after making changes such as that in the ASIO Control Panel. I suggest you close Reaper, open the ASIO Control Panel and choose [16+16], and then start Reaper and check the audio device configuration (make sure you click the down arrows to see all the possible options for inputs and outputs). Here is a picture of what the config screen in Reaper looks like for me (for comparison). Last edited by Russ; Aug 20, 2008 at 04:47 PM. Reason: add picture |

OK So with the info you gave me I was finally able to get something decent coming through the record channel.
![]() It was a little weird (proly mostly due to the fact that I have a LOT to learn about how kX audio works in general, let alone the specific bells and whistles). So I shut down Reaper, Went to Kx Setting and Reset the device to start from scratch (I had already mucked with the routings - and from what I'm seeing, it's good practice anyway ). So I Redid all the settings I mentioned above. Then opened Reaper > Audio config. lo and behold there 16 I/O choices for input & output. Hoping that I could take the easy way out, I selected ASIO 6/7 (That's where it's set up on my prolog/epilog graphic). Well I should know that in DAW-land there is no easy way out - i.e. nuthin'.![]() So I set the Reaper record channel back to ASIO 0/1, then off to kX DSP Routing. Here, epilog ASIO 0/1 (along with [400f]RecR and [400e]RecL) are defaulted to [8009]RecR and [8008]RecL on the top (blue input) site of XRouting. After a bit of connecting and reconnecting I ultimately just had to disconnect ASIO 0/1 from the RecL+R Xrouting, then connect the the Coax from prolog 6/7 to ASIO 0/1 on epilog. (Yes - like you said )and then promptly save the setting so I can get back to it without the hoops. While I was at it I also switched the outputs to 24bit/48000 [8+8] in ASIO Config - figured at this point may as well go whole hog to take advantage of the additional features of kX. So this piece seems to be working now - thanks in major part to you for your time and explanations. Cause I sure as heck wasn't getting anywhere with the doc. Seems that I asked for help from a a guru and - that's exactly what I got.
