3544a released - BETA
hi
3544 a is out (original 3544 users please read the changes below)
Changes:
* improved 24-bit support
* updated kX Router
* changed default routings and WinMM device names
* added 'reload firmware' button for E-DSP control
* fixed power management issues with E-DSP
* Surrounder+ default preset set to 'direct path'
* optimized FXBusX microcode
---
Details:
Previous build, 3543, did not support 24-bit properly. 3544 was tested to ensure all 24 bits are transferred bit-accurate to the DSP and to the codecs. We managed to improve the code to handle 32-bit transfers (up to 30 bits are accurate, two are lost because of hardware mixing requirements). DSP microcode was optimized for 10k2.5 devices (3 instructions instead of 4). kX should now support true 24/32 transfers for any 10k2-based device (audigy 1, audigy2, audigy 2 value, E-DSP), in ASIO and KernelStreaming modes. Note: WinMM still operates at 16-bit ONLY for WinXP. It -may- work at 24-bit for Windows Vista (not tested).
In order to achieve 24-bit support, kX driver uses -two- 16-bit audio streams for each 24-bit stream, that's why DSP routings and DSP microcode was updated. 24-bit transfers are only valid when FXBusX microcode is uploaded. If you are using FXBus and FXBus2, you won't get 24-bit!
kX Router was updated, because 24-bit transfers require special routing. It is no longer possible to use different send amounts for Wave and ASIO sources. FXBus assignments are also limited. kX Router virtualizes FX Bus assignment ASIO [you will see generic selection from FXBus0 to FXBus15], but in reality each ASIO channel is routed to two buses: e.g. ASIO0 is assigned to FXBus 32, FXBus33. FXBusX and new kX Router hide this and represent this 'combined' output as unified 'FXBus0'.
WinMM names for Wave devices are now: 0/1, 2/3, 4/5, 6/7 (routed to corresponding FXBuses), wave 8/9 is no longer used.
Synth is now routed to FXBus 10,11 (was 2,3)
--
If after hibernation or stand-by your E-DSP does not produce any sound, or if you are upgrading after E-mu/Creative drivers for the first time and did not turn off your PC, click 'reload firmware' in the E-DSP Control.
edspctrl was updated to handle multiple cards [thanks to Russ]
--
Thanks to Dmitry Gorelov for his incredible tool for testing bit-accurate playback and recording, beta-testing and hints.

Please post your bug reports to the following thread:
3544 bug reports
Download link: here
Installation:
Uninstall any previous version and remove its settings, reboot. This is important. 3544 is not compatible with any previous settings files.
----
Changes compared to 3544:
3544a:
* Fixed a bug in 3544 that caused incorrect kxmixer behaviour after restart (this only affects 10k8-based cards, A2 value, A2ZSNotebook, E-mu E-DSP PCI 2.0 devices).
* Fixed kX Router issue on 10k1 devices (reported by Russ)

Thanks E.
Things look good so far (with my 10k1 card).
One possible (minor) issue with kX Router: Although the ASIO bus selection option lists FxBus 0-15, the label shows values of 240-247 (instead of 0-15).
i.e.
FxBus 0 and 1 shows 240
FxBus 2 and 3 shows 241.
... etc.
In any case, the selection popup shows the correct selection for each, so it is probably just an issue with the label.
-
Plugin compatibility appears to be the same as with previous versions (since 3539).

no audio output in vista32 + 4gb ram. Fresh install.
In previous version 3543 with same configuration was no sound output problems, but ASIO doesn`t work/

Using 3544a, I am able to select 8ms latency. Prior to this version 3534f was the only one I could use without clicks and pops and the only latency that worked for me was 21.33 ms.
CPU - 800 Mhz PIII
RAM - 768

I upgraded to 3544a from 3541 and now the only way to put my digital 5.1 speakers in surround is to go to copy. There is no sound whatsoever beyond the front 2 speakers unless its on copy. Is there any way to get true surround back?

"copy" wil lcopy the front signal and send it to all surround speakers, use this if you want to upmix a stereo source, ie, mp3/cd/video file etc
use another mode if you're using a multi-channel source

Can you be more specific?
In another post you mentioned that you are only using the digital out, which means that (with that speaker system), kX's surround settings should not make any difference... Are you still only using the digital out?
What do you mean by true surround? Are you referring to the surround modes provided by your speaker system, or by kX?
Again, if you are using only the digital out, then there is no way to get true surround (i.e. you can only have your speaker system upmix) since the signal is stereo only (and kX does not support AC3 pass-through with that card model).
If you are now using both the analog and digital outputs of the sound card at the same time (I do not know if your sound card supports this), then I think that with that speaker system (if you want it to do the upmixing) you need to mute the analog rear output (but this would also kill the rear channel from multichannel sources (i.e. 3D sound from games, etc)).
Surround should work the same as it did in previous versions of kX (apart from some routing changes), so I am not sure why things would be any different for you. Did you uninstall 3541 before installing 3544a? Did you make any other changes?
Here is the manual for that speaker system.

Quote:
The only way to force Pro Logic effects on a stereo source is to use the digital input and ensure that there is no rear channel analog signal sent to the BA7500.

I have a gateway made digital only model of the BA7500(G), i don't have analog as an option. I am well aware that you (sadly) don't support AC3-pass-through for this card (apparently that supposedly will give me surround using the hardware in the speakers with some tweaking), but I can't use the Creative drivers as they BSOD the system (ever since SP1). This speaker system is also very picky with sound cards, it wont work with an Audigy at all (only front 2 speakers).
Before, i could actually put the 'surround' setting to 'on' and i would actually get surround (tested with movies). Oddly enough I also got upmixed stereo(music) in that mode as well. It sounded alot better than just using 'copy.' I fully removed Kx before installing the new version, (uninstall + registry cleaner + deleted directory + deleted INFs + reboot). The only change made to the system was the updating of kX. I am as puzzled as to how this could have happened as you guys are. It doesn't make sense.

Ahh, OK, so the OEM version has more than one digital input. That makes more sense....
So are you saying that Surround "Copy" works, but Surround "On" does not work?
What speaker mode is Surrounder set to? Make sure that it is set to 4.1 mode, with the 'Use Subwoofer Output' option not checked.
You might also try disconnecting the Center/LFE outputs from Surrounder (this shouldn't make a difference, but...)

Yes I am saying that Surround 'On' doesn't work at all. Its been on 4.1 the whole time without the sub output checked. I tried disconnecting those two, no cigar.

Sorry, I do not know why it should be any different when using "Copy" -vs- "On". I think if you connect peak plugins to both the front and rear outputs of Surrounder you will see that you will get a signal on both outputs with both settings, so it seems strange that one setting works with your speaker system while the other doesn't (unless maybe you have the VRearA amount set to zero).

Reason: typo: VRear should read VRearA

I do not know why i didn't do this before, but i fixed it. I used the 'Clear DSP' and then 'Reinitialize DSP'. Everything now works as before. Any settings really shouldn't have been messed up due to the clean install...
Edit: Just thought i would let you guys know, StarCraft makes the 'beep' bug I mentioned in my other post happen every time on exit. You may want to get a copy of this game and try and figure out whats happening as i believe this should make the bug easily reproducible now.

Hmm, in any case, I am glad that you got it working.
As for StarCraft (one of my favorite games, btw), I do not have any such issues, so the problem may not be as easy to reproduce as you might think.

Hum... try to manually install the driver, selecting your card. Just a guess.
