Fake Audigy2 drive?
I just got what was supposed to be an Audigy2 drive. That's even what it says on the faceplate. But it has an aud_ext header instead of an ad_ext. And its model number is SB0010D, which is the same number as an Audigy "1" drive I saw on Ebay. The cable that came with the drive fits the headers at both the drive and the ZS, but I can't get the drive to work. I think I've been misled by someone. This is really discouraging.
Is there anything I can do to get this drive to work with the ZS? Please help. Last edited by gtardirt; Jul 18, 2008 at 06:34 PM. Reason: corrected model # from SB001D to SB0010D |

BTW: There is info in the following thread on connecting the Live! Drive IR to an Audigy 2 ZS, but personally I would probably return it and get the right one.
LIVE! IR Drive + Audigy 2 ZS = Audigy 2 ZS platinum?? |

I'm working with the seller right now. He says he has another drive he can send, but I'm not confident he won't send another incorrect model. As I understand it, the only two that will work are the Audigy2 drive and the Audigy2ZS drive. You posted the model number for the ZS drive (thanks), but I haven't been able yet to find the number for the Audigy2 drive . Do you know what it is?

Actually I think the model numbers are the same as with the ZS models (SB0250/SB0290), so maybe it is just different revisions.
i.e. If you look at the List of Sound Blaster Products you will see: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum: SB0350/SB0250 Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum: SB0240/SB0250 Also, if you look here, you will see the Audigy2 Drive labeled as "SB0250 - Audigy2 Drive". But of course it would be helpful if people that have these units could verify this, and maybe provide additional info. Last edited by Russ; Jul 18, 2008 at 10:18 PM. |

The SB0010 is the Live! Drive IR, so maybe the "D" designates the Audigy Drive version/revision or something... I do not know.
(The Audigy Drive is listed as SB0012 here) Last edited by Russ; Jul 18, 2008 at 11:28 PM. |

OK, how about this? The seller says the model# of the one he's planning to ship to me is SB0250A.
![]() See if you can track down *that* one. I only got a few hits on it. Most of them were about Senate Bills, and one was pretty much all in Chinese or something except for the term "Audigy 2." Is that "A" maybe the Chinese (or whatever) revision? ![]() Anyway, the seller is being really cooperative, so maybe things will turn out well after all, and I won't have to ask for help here in making a custom cable or something. I read the thread on that. Links to pictures don't work. I'd probably need lots of pictures.

Yeah I am not finding much for SB0250A either, but at least those Chinese sites mention it as the drive for the SB0240 (Audigy2/A2 Platinum), so I think you might be OK with that one.

Comparing the SB0010D to a picture I found of an SB0010, I notice that the "D" model has a firewire connector. Maybe that's what the "D" signifies.

I didn't find any model number printed on the main circuit board, but I did see the SB0250A number printed on a smaller and elevated circuit board that's tucked underneath the top cover (half cover). Maybe the "A" is just for that smaller circuit board. Similarly, there is the number SB0010"B" printed on the smaller and elevated circuit board on the SB0010"D" Live Drive IR model I was first sent. |

Cool, good to hear this worked out for you, luckily the seller had that other drive.
Wonder why creative had to go and change the pinouts, just to make them incompatable for some reason? or is one pinout more convieniant for circuit layout? Not that it matters much unless you are hacking around with older gear as I am.... Couldn't do what I'm doing without KX....... Great Stuff! Peace,
