SEVERE crackling with Direct S/PDIF Recording... with an ODD twist

Well at least I've narrowed it down.. this entire year I haven't been able to rip vinyl or record anything without this brutal crackling & popping.

I record into the spdif coax input on the front of my Audigy 2ZS platinum. However as of this year I can't record using Direct SPDIF recording without brutal crackling. It appears instantly when I select 'coax' from the drop down box of the direct spdif rec. No crackling if I record without the direct spdif setting though.

The bizarre thing, is it only ever appears thru the right channel! It shows up nasty in the recorded wav though.

Please can someone shed some light on this... I have to record my 2008 mix cd this week and this has been bugging the hell out of me for months!

much thanks
