Vista 5.1 working on sb0220 ?
Hi
First time user of the kx drivers because of vista 32 bits and just wanted to say thanks for getting me sound!
However, I only seem to get front speaker sound : no center, woofer, or back sound.
I tried to set the mixer up as best as I could using the help file but I'm new to these drivers so I may very well have missed something.
Is this normal behavior or is this a bug ? And most importantly, can I do anything about it ?
Thanks.
Edit : I believe I should also mention I use SP1 and the 3541 version and I did a quick search in the forum but could not find anything related pertaining to my card with the 3541 drivers).

Set Master Mixer as the default device for audio playback in the Windows Control Panel.
Click on the Speaker Setup button in kxmixer, and set it to 5.1 mode, with Surround On.
There is an issue in 3541 that effects the routing of stereo only audio sources, which in turn effects the upmixing ability of those sources (under the default DSP config). Use the following workaround to enable upmixing of stereo sources:
Open the DSP window.
Connect the top two pins of FxBus to the 5th/6th pins of xrouting.
Connect the 5th/6th pins of FxBus to the top two pins of xrouting.
(i.e. swap the connections that the above two pin pairs are currently using).
Again, use this workaround for stereo audio sources only (use the default routing when listening to multichannel audio sources).

Thanks.
I hadn't done either of these things but it does seem to have fixed it as sound comes from all speakers now.
I'm going to do further testing in games and all but it does seem to have fixed it.
Thanks a bunch.
edit : After further testing, everything seems to work fine for the 5.1 settings. Thanks. However since I'm here I'd like to ask about something else. Midi plays using the default Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. How do I make the kx Synth default in Vista as I haven't found any ways to do that so far ?
edit 2 : I've also noticed a crackling sound that wasn't there before since I did the "bugfix". Is it 1 to 5, 2 to 6, 5 to 1 and 6 to 2 ?

I do not have Vista, so I am not familiar with it's config options. Hopefully another Vista user can give you the info...

Thanks for the midi info. I found out thanks to google the only way to change it is hacking the registry (or using a gui some people made to do it). Problem fixed!
However for the pop/crack sound I hear, I did a search and some other people in the 3541 bug report thread were also commenting on such an issue under vista. Since you seem/are vastly more knowledgeable than I am in these matters than myself, is there a workaround for it you would be aware of ? If not would you think downgrading to the latest stable version (3538m I believe) could fix it and would it have any other adverse effects/loss of functionality I should be made aware of before trying ?
Thanks for your help so far. Really appreciate it.

If it is an issue related specifically to Vista, it really would be better if someone who is using Vista (and kX) could respond.

Just as a quick follow-up to anyone else who might have this issue, it went away when I downgraded to the 3538m version. I also didn't have to make tweaks to the DSP in order to get surround sound.
Thanks Russ for your help.
