HElPPPPPPPP!!!!!!kXProject

I usually ask a lot of questions from the get go, but this time I slipped up from being on overload and went a head and trusted someone who, for me, is really high maintenance and not not easy to deal with that I bought a second hand computer from that has Vista on it and kXProject. The learning curve for Vista alone is enough, but though I heard over and over that hey had vista on the computer for a year, using the computer as a server(very hot processer--dual core hyperthreading), it seems that the computer doesn't like having Vista on it.

I am told that kXProject was put on the computer, because the computer the creative sound blaster card would not work with Vista. I already checked with Creative and in their planned obsolescence mode they tell me I need a new card....nice huh. Why did I call them?

Though kXProject was on the task bar, the sound test failed on all speaker locations. Going into device manager, I looked for a new driver. It told me that it found none, but then everytime I opened my computer, it kept trying to install a driver, which it did not know where it went. The first time I tried to let it, but that did not work right. I was still being told that kXProject was disabled and it did not let me enable it. The next time I opened the computer I said something about not now or to that effect, but the third time I said do not install.....and whatever meant forget about it. When I went into device manager, kX Project was no longer there, though I never uninstalled it.

Yet in the task bar kXProject sits, and it is our programs in start. If you click on it from the start menu, it has the following subset to kXAudio Driver: Browse SDK(3538), Install Aureal A2D Engine(I have no idea what this is, help 3538, kXmixer(goes to program as from task bar), Uninstall kXProject, uninstall&reinstall kXProject Audio Driver3538(which I am suspecting I should do)

I went to the help files. I know nothing of the level of audio stuff that hey are talking about. I could be reading it for hours I think, and someone who knows this stuff could help in minutes.

Right now though the Soundblaster card has three or four speaker locations only one location is working, which means that I can not plug in the bass speaker or any others that I have.

The test for sound from speakers fails on all of the kX tests.

I don't know if I should use the uninstall reinstall feature.

I don't know if this mixer was really intended to make the sound blaster card work with vista or if kX project really is intended to use with Vista, since on my glance I did not see Vista listed

I don't know why on reboot the computer did not find the program and reinstall it

And I do not know what Aureal A2D Engine is in relationship to this

As you can see, I am lost. Is there someone out there can that can help.

****I have also found that the CD/DVD burner is allowing me to prepare files for burning, but will not recognize the Sony DVD-R media that I put in to copy to and is thinking that there is no disk inserted. I do not know if that is a driver issue also. It seems that he put some DVD software on here that comes up to play DVDs, so it looks like I may be having a driver issue on the DVD/CDburner as wll.

I am over my head here, since I already have to try to get a new printer, since there is no driver on Vista for my printer and Lexmarx, does not have one listed, plus another issuee that I hesitate to mention here, since it is not driver or kX related......Can someone help! Is there someone out there that all this is making sense to...... At this point, I think the guy is really bluffing and does not know how to rectify the problems or doesn't want to admit they existed, so Thanks to whomever can be of some help here.

Make sure that the default device (for audio) in the Windows Control Panel is set to Master Mixer.

Use the Speaker Setup button in kX Mixer to adjust speaker settings.

See the docs from the following thread (for info on using kX):

as I mentioned, in my long post(sorry), kX is no longer showing in device manager, so keep this in mind. The other thing is that things are set up differently in Vista(which from your reply) I assume kX can work with?
If I go in Vista to control panel, there is no icon for audio, but there is one for sound, and I assume that is what you meant. If I open that the only thing there is, the sound blaster card, so I went to default manager. In none of the locations for sound is there listed kX.

As I mentioned, one of the problems is that kX is in my task bar and in my start menu programs, but not listed as devices any longer. Please refer back to my initial post if anyone responds

BTW: I did go to the link and then to the soundblaster card location under sounds to see the version of Soundblaster Live. There it said Creative Labs-kXProject and Eugene's name as the driver creator

If kX is not listed in Device Manager (I am not sure why it would be in the taskbar if that is the case), then run kxsetup.exe from the directory where you installed kX to (this will reinstall just the driver and not the full kX package).

Somewhere in the Audio Control panel (or whatever it is under Vista), you should be able to choose between Master Mixer, kX Wave 4/5, etc. as the default device for playback (I do not have Vista so I do not know the specifics, but it is there somewhere).

KX does support Vista, but it was only recently added, and there are still some issues with it. You would have to search the forum (and read the bug reports threads, etc), to find out what issues exist with the version of kX that you are using.

you apparently are using 3538 version of the driver. you might wanna check the 3541 since it has better vista support.
