Default Post Alternative Creative Drivers kX Project Site

Hi Folks...if you would like to try something different for your Creative card try these drivers.

http://www.kxproject.spb.ru/index.php

I've never used them myself, but they come highly recommended.

That would be great, but my Audigy's workin' fine right now (sure no special control panel) I installed them from within device manager, to get rid of Creative's bloat. But now my 8500DV works properly too,

I wanted to try them on my PCI128, but alas, no support for THAT card.

As you guys probably know, I am a huge Philips Acoustic Edge fan...however, since I quad boot my main box, I am currently forced to use a SB Live 5.1 xgamer. I had an audigy, but I am embarrassed to say that I broke off two of the resistors when changing out :o

So, as everyone knows the drivers for the sb series pretty much sucks in xp, but work flawlessly with the new alsa release in linux. So I am game to try these out. I will let you know my findings...worse case, I reinstall the oems.

Cool.
Just tried these out and they seem good so far.
granted i still get really bad popping in RTCW, JK2 and SS 2 SE. ( but the only time that i have not had popping in thouse games was when i was using the FireGL OGL drivers for my 8500 so i will not go there )

Yes this will!!

I just loaded them..great drivers.

Just remember to find the CTOem.cfg file in the folder and detect it. If you don't it will say you don't have the card installed.

I'm currently using those drivers. Great sound improvement. Highly recommended!!!!
dallastar has done a great job making a file for just the drivers. He reduced the file frm 350 megs to 4.5.

And yes they work for all the Live Series.

Way to go dallas!!

For my first post here I would like to thank dallasstar for trimming the fat off that softpaq, for those of us that are connectionally challenged.
Thank You

I dont know about anybody else's experience with CTAGENT.DLL, but I have never seen a more persistant file than that one for trying to get out to the internet. My choices were to either let it go or remove it, since it insisted and reinsisted with every browser window I opened (and when you say no with ZA you need to open another browser window) it wanted out and wanted to take many, many more dll's with it. I had to go into safe mode to delete it. So far no ill effects and nothing else wanting to get out to the internet.
One other thing, it did a job on the volume of the system, I now have a few apps that are louder (quite a bit) than the rest of the system. I had initially thought the drivers didnt take or had installed poorly, until I turned my speaker volume to 3/4 (external, normally at 1/4). The system volume (control panel) is one notch short of full now (two or three from the left before) and the speaker volume (externally) is at 1/2 to get the same volume.

I would also like to mention the kX drivers, for which I thank Necrosis for making me aware of. I tried those first, for me no real improvement except that they were not a Creative product. Also they had a strange problem on my system, they would not wake from standby. Yes my system is somewhat tweaked but no other driver has ever done that before.

Some specifics
P4 2.0
Intel D845BG mobo
Windows XP Pro
Live 5.1

As you may have picked up on I'm not very pro-Creative right now, they cant seem to admit they have a problem, but two of their biggest customers, with 1-800 numbers I might add, have released multiple updates.
This soundcard problem I have lived with but I have owned (tried, thanks BestBuy) three different modems of theirs, and a CompUSA store brand (with Win2K drivers no less) out performed all of them on the first connection and hasnt failed me since. So right now I dont have a very high opinion of Creative Labs.

I just thought I would share my experiences

I couldnt tell you. I'm not much of an audiophile on a pc anyway. I was after a fix for the snaps, crackles and pops that are in certain apps. I can tell you this they lessened the serverity of them in the troubled apps but in doing so it was spread to other areas, previously unaffected.

Hm, just installed this Compaq driver release which is said to be the new official one. Works really fine for me so far, but I got one bad problem: GTA3 won't allow me to use EAX, the game says that I wouldn't have the hardware for EAX. Uhm?
Any fixes? Thx in advance...
