My Mic Doesn't Work!

Alright guys, well I just purchased a new mic. It's the Premium Stereo Headset by Logitech. I tested it on my other computer and it works fine, but it seems like with my gaming computer that uses the kX audio driver, I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm using the latest build.

After following the guide:
MD6 - KX Mic Setup(default DSP config)

It still doesn't work. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you for your time.

It doesn't record sound. However, if I play a song on my computer for example, and hit record in Window's Sound Recorder, it will pick that up, but not my voice.

Please use specific version numbers, as 9 times out of 10, people who say that they are using the latest build, are not.

There is really not much more info to give you that is not in that guide. Please be sure that you did not miss any steps, and if you do not understand something, ask...

Your MIC is connected to the rear of the card, and not a (front) drive bay connection, right? (a drive bay connection would be different instructions)

Make sure your MIC is connected to the correct jack on the rear of the card, and is fully inserted (try disconnecting/reconnecting it).

Try unmuting the AC97 slider on the Ins and Outs page of kxmixer, and see if you can hear the MIC in the speakers.

You might also try Resetting AC97 (button on AC97 page of kxmixer) and a Reset Device Settings (kx settings menu). and then redo the setup following the guide.

Aside from the above:
What model sound card do you have (give specific model number if possible)?
What OS are you using?

Thanks for the reply.

I am using build 3539. Would this be the latest version? I would think, so since it is stickied here on these forums.

I understood the guide completely.

Yes my microphone is connected through the rear, inserted into a circle with a pink border, this being the microphone slot. Has the microphone symbol over it and all.

Unmuting AC97 in Ins and Outs doesn't seem to do anything.

I'll try resetting the settings and taking another attempt in a little bit.

My sound card is a an SB022xa 10k1 [dc00] as shown by the kX mixer. I have some feeling it would work with other drivers, but the thing is that the card seems so old that kX drivers are the only drivers I can even find for it. Maybe it's time for an upgrade haha.

I am running on Windows XP Pro.

EDIT: Woah! It just started to work. I've found out the problem, but I don't really understand why it is a problem. Well, okay so this headset has two cords to it to insert into the sound card. One being the microphone, and the other being the sound output. So I have the microphone and the sound output inserted, but whenever I try to say something, nothing is picked up. However, when I unplug the sound output from my sound card, leaving the microphone cord in, I CAN SAY STUFF! However, this is annoying because if I want to hear what I say, I have to plug in the sound output, but then I can't talk again unless I unplug it. Strange.

EDIT2: Now it is working fully. In the control panel under Sound Playback, I have a pretty large dropdown of all different kinds of stuff, but I selected a different option different from the option from where my sound was being recorded, and now I appear to be getting sound, as well as my voice being picked up. However, I notice that in Sound Recorder and whatnot, the lines don't move when I talk. However, when I play back, I can hear what I'm saying loud and clear. What option in kX Mixer would represent Microphone Outbound? Thanks.

EDIT: Looks like Microphone Outbound is AC97 Ins and Out. It looks like if this value is set to infinite, my voice isn't picked up, but if I set it to a specific number such as 12 for example, it works.

Yes, 3539 is currently the latest version but as I said, more often then not, people say they are using the latest version when they are not, so it is always better to give the specific version number so that there is no confusion.

In any case, I am glad that you figured out the problem.

I am not sure what you mean by the above:

For recording (outbound to the OS), the AC97 Rec Level slider (Recording page), Master Recording Level (recording page), the AC97 source selection (AC97 page), and Analog Recording Gain (AC97 page) are all involved.

If you want to hear the MIC in the speakers while recording, you can use one of the following:
AC97 In slider (Ins and Outs page)
MIC In slider (AC97 page)

The MIC Boost option (AC97 page) effects both.

Aside from the above, I would recommend downloading the latest verison of ProFx, as it is much easier to use (use ProFx:ADC connected to RecL/RecR of epilog for Recording MIC/Line In, etc), as you do not have to do anything in kxmixer.

Cool. Thanks for the help Russ. For a $20 mic, this thing has great sound quality and just the perfect level of noise canceling. Comfy around the ears too haha. I'll check out ProFX. Thanks again, and thanks to kX for making such great drivers, the only drivers I could ever find for this sound card.
