That seems to be normal behavior with recent versions of kX (although I do not remember this behavior in some older versions of kX). In any case, since the application would need to restart it's audio engine after any changes are made in the ASIO CP, I guess it makes sense that it would only be accessible from within the audio application that is using it.

i am not able to get the windows mixer to show up. i went into sound devices and set the playback to '0/1', but i have no option to enable the windows mixer. i know this used to work in 3538, what setting can i enable to get the windows mixer back for control of master and wave volumes?

well im using this in the car with a piece of software called road runner which controls volume via the mappings of the windows mixer. with the 3539 drivers, since there is no windows mixer, i have no wave volume control, but it does seem as though i have master volume control. i have to revert back to 3538m for the time being.
basically, i dont think windows is recognizing the card as a device for which it can control volume, because everything on the main page in sound and device properties is grayed out. running sndvol32 brings me controls for master and wave, but in the application i am using, only master works. with 3538m, both worked. |

This is a known issue with 3539.

in reguards to using the Audigy 2 Notebook, I have found that using ASIO on the card seems to be the best workaround as of late to keep from having the audio voices from erroring out. I have been using foobar2000 to play music through asio and winamp in conjunction with the asio output plugin: WINAMP5用 ASIO出力プラグイン (dll version) - おたちゃんのMIDI/Audioソフト to play movies. Hope this is helpful to someone!

Another update as far as the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook is concerned, I have found thus far that Kernel Steraming also does not cause any errors when changing songs
if we could couple the KX drivers with a sort of 'kernelstreaming4all' program (like asio4all) that would accept any programs output and then 'convert' to Kernel Streaming, that would definately be a workaround for those with ZS NB's that arent working ![]() EDIT: there is a slight 'pop' sometimes on a song change, as with ASIO. Second Edit: Just to explain, I have been using ASIO for quite a while with no trouble however you can only run one ASIO program at once, KS is a good workaround for that ![]() EDIT (IMPORTANT)*: yea, so this is getting rediculous with the edits, I just treid changing movies while playing a song through another KS channel, that did cause the voices to 'crash' and cause a loud whining noise whenever playing something until using the "rv" command within kxctrl and then quickly switching through songs till things played correctly. so you cannot use 2 KS streams reliably (atleast i cant). I will test KS in conjunction with ASIO in a while.

is there any way to get winamp to use asio for music? i am using winamp integrated into a touchscreen friendly software for my car, and if there is any way to use it without this bug, that would be great.
edit: can anyone also quickly explain asio and how its different than what is normally used for output? |

WINAMP5用 ASIO出力プラグイン (dll version) - おたちゃんのMIDI/Audioソフト <- this was sort of explained in my first post (a couple of posts ago) this plugin works for winamp to give asio output. ASIO is basically a more direct means of getting audio to the card rather than processing through windows first (short answer).
as i understand, when the audio stream errors out (on my computer, after changing songs a seemingly random amount of times, something with the hardware 'voices' (see the lowest icon in the kx mixer) errors out causing a continual whining noise. using asio does not use these voices therefore there is no chance for the stream to error out.

so what settings do i have to change in the kx mixer or dsp to tell it to use asio? or are those inputs already active. in other words if i try the asio plugin for winamp will it automatically play using my kx drivers?

I installed the asio dll for winamp and selected it for the output but when I play a song, it stops immediately and I don't hear anything. Is there some guide to setting this up?
Also, I am unable to get line in or mic input to work on my audigy zs. I even tried to use the laptop's built in microphone input, but it only outputs through the laptop speakers if I do it that way. EDIT: I got the mic input working but its very noisy....has there been any solution for this? Last edited by hari-bhari; Dec 19, 2007 at 12:28 PM. |

You need to re-sample everything to 48Khz. Or set kX ASIO 'Format:' to use 44.1 (typical for MP3 encoding as far as I see - but re-sampling in winamp to 48Khz should always work) About the mic noise?? Quote:

I have Audigy2 ZS. Truly 5.1 sound in Vista I can hear only when I choose "Wave Out HQ". When i choose "Master Mixer", all programs "thinking" that u have stereo, and stereo upmixing to 5.1. But with "Wave Out HQ" upmixing, speaker mixer, surrounder and bass redirection didn`t work.
SO, when u use kx-drivers on Vista it`s impossimble to have 5.1 sound in movies or DVD-Audio with bass redirection. Or, for exmple when u watching movie with 5.1 sound it`s impossible to make rear speakers a little bit louder. Whether this problem is solved? --- Now it`s doesn`t metter. I install XP and feel that Vista--bullshit. Last edited by pumpit; Jan 8, 2008 at 01:55 PM. |

clicks when using asio feature
Hi,
I'm using driver version 3539 on an audigy zs2 notebook. The driver works almost without any problems, aside from: This happens in audio software like flstudio or wavelab, with the kX Asio Driver selected as driver: when playing and repeating samples, after three or four replays a click appears at the end of the sample, like a DC Offset. Playing the audio project for one second somehow resets the click and I'm able to listen to the samples without clicking for one or two times. Then, while playing samples a noise occurs, like multiple DC Offsets that get squashed (the "introduction" to clicking ) and after that noise the clicking starts again. When choosing one of the kX Wave outputs the sound is clean, but since latency and stability of the driver is not comparable to the ASIO feature it is not an option. Does someone have an explanation? Following steps have been already tried: -adjusting buffer settings -reinstalling the driver -new setup of DSP -driver compatibilty settings -synthesizer compatibility settings -older driver versions If it is necassary, I can record that noise and post it. kind regards

Hello Kammajaega,
thanks for the detailed report. Yes, please record the noise and post a link. I can get a ZS2NB to cross-check your results. Greetings TravelRec. |

Which older version for win2K
Sorry to dig up this old thread, I'm not dragging it too far off topic.
I have a question about the older versions of KX and which would be my best bet for this system. 866Mhz P III with 512 ram (Dell Dimension 4100) Dual monitor setup, 40 gig IDE system drive, 80 gig recording drive on it's own IDE channel. 2 X SB Live! linked via spdif, a CT4830 and a SB0100 as the master card Windows 2000 pro SP4. I will be using this in the basement for recording my big amps, it's too loud to do this upstairs where my better computers are without offending the neighbors. And too damp in the basement for my better systems.I will be using a combination of mic'd amps, straight in line level, and will probably mess around with some soundfont stuff and DSP effects plugins. Mostly I'm after the loud amps mic'd. The soundfonts (I know nothing about yet) I hope to play via a midi keyboard through the joystick port.... this is how this is done right??? And the DSP plugins I'm looking at the "guitar effects" and other stuff on Russ' KXstuff page. Also I think the ProFX plugs that Lex has done... not all the time but on occasion. Anyways my main question, right now I have 3538j working on this system, spdif box pops up when KX mixer loads, and I have sound ...... I haven't tested further but this should all work fine. Is there any reason to up grade to 3539 patched? Is there any way to go higher? Or even drop back to 3534 which may have better ASIO performance? I want to match versions with the plugins also, so that is a consideration. Any words of wisdom here, which version sounds like the best bet to you guys that have been using KX for awhile? I'll more than likely be using Reaper DAW as my recording software. Once I get stuff to hard drive it will go upstairs for further mixing and VST work on my other systems. I'll probably be upgrading those systems to the new beta thats in the works for the 24 bit support. Thanks in advance, Peace

on a win2k machine, 3534f would probably give better performance/stability
