Speakers scrambled. Audio from wrong sources.

I use a 5.1 set of speakers, everything is configured and plugged in correctly (as far as I can tell.. I've spent a good few hours on this problem though so I've checked a few times).

Front Left and Right and Subwoofer audio comes from the correct speaker.
Front Center audio comes from the Rear Left speaker.
Rear Left audio comes from Front Center speaker.
Nothing comes from Rear Right speaker.

I've tried going through all the settings, I've read most of the FAQs and the helpfiles, I've browsed these forums for similar problems, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and windows is set to 5.1, tried all the settings in surrounder etc. etc. I can't work it out.

Can anyone help me?

Incase its helpful I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS card and this set of 5.1 speakers, plus the latest kX driver.

Are you absolutely sure you plugged them in correctly in the back of the subwoofer?

I used to own those speakers and I found that if i was trying to connect them under my desk (yes thats where i had my sub) that two of the line colors looks awfully familiar.

Another basic thing to check for is to ensure that you set the windows audio settings to 5.1 (not that that would be the problem for the mixed speakers)

Sorry if I'm not terribly helpful on this but it does seem like a simple cabling issue to me.

EDIT: Well if you have onboard sound I would actually try to run it through that too if you're out of ideas. To see if this is a speaker issue or a sound card issue.

I've rewired it and checked it out multiple times, traced each wire back to the correct speaker to make sure etc. Plus, if it was wired up to the sub incorrectly it would only affect the Front L/R and Rear L/R wouldn't it? (As the Front Center plugs into its own socket which there is only one of).

The only other sound output is a seperate card installed with its own drivers (M-Audio Audiophile 2496, I use that for recording and the Audigy for playback) but its only outputs (other than its digital ones which I've never used) are Stereo RCA, I have a Stereo RCA--> Stereo Jack converter that I think came with the Audigy but the 5.1 speakers have 3 Jacks to plug in, do you know if its possible to test them in any way by just plugging 2 of the 3 colours in (yellow, black and green, if its of any significance)?

It sounds like you have the Rear and Center/Sub connections reversed.
Verify the connections to the sound card.

Green should be for Front, Black for Rear, and Orange for Center/Sub.

Ahah yes, I always remember to plug them in in the order 'ybg', but this time I was leaning over my computer rather than facing the back of it, so they were plugged in in reverse. Dumb mistake.

Do the in/out connectors click snugly?
... just eliminating some possibilities ...
