What Soundfont in kX for Best Quality Midi Playback?

Hello,

I'm just looking for some opinions about what soundfonts some of you may use to in kx to make your midi files sound pretty good? Rather than just using the regular windows gm bank...GM.dls I believe it is....which I think may be the Roland SoundCanvas?

Thank you for any ideas about this,

frew

HoWdY!!

There is a whole slew of sound fonts that you can download @

http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php &
http://hammersound.net/cgi-bin/soundlink.pl &
http://www.soundblaster.com/soundfont/ (Vienna Soundfont Editor) &
http://www.personalcopy.com/home.htm

These are a few that I've found and they were really useful.

Hope this helps!
Dennis

Thanks so much for the links Slippers.

Actually, what I'm hoping is to have people tell me some of their personal favorite sf2 banks that they use when they play midi files. Banks that contain sounds that are really good overall, for sounds like strings, acoustic bass, flute, etc...all around good quality.

Do you have any favorite sf2 banks that you load into kX when you play midi files?

Thank you for any ideas,

frew

Maddogg6 will become famous soon enough

The one I use for 'general midi' - are ones I compiled myself... bass gtr from this one - piano from another - etc etc.... /edit over the course of several years - some of which I bought /edit
Otherwise - I load individual instrument SF's as per project (in Sonar).

For general midi stuff (not necessarly for best quality), I like the Unison soundfont (from the personalcopy website), as well as the Musica Theoria soundfont (available at the same site).

A lot of people seem to like the Fluid soundfont, but it is a rather large.

Thanks so much for your ideas.

Maddogg6, I can see that building my own sf2 banks from my favorite presets is probably the way to go.

Russ, yes the Unison bank is quite good, and so is the Musica Theoria bank...although one of it's pianos sounds a little strange too me...but the rest of it generally sounds quite nice. And indeed, the Fluid bank is a bit larger than I want to be loading on a regular basis.

Thanks again very much,

frew
