When you are unable to hear other people, are you able to hear other Windows sounds?
Which wave device is Ventrillo configured to use?
Is there some other application in particulair that you are using at the same time that the problem occurs (a game maybe)?
You may want to connect some peak plugins to FxBus, and use it to determine if the sound (from Ventrillo) is getting to the DSP or not (when it cuts out on you).
You might try clicking on the "Reset AC97" (AC97 page of kxmixer) button when the problem occurs, and see if that fixes it (may need to reconfigure/reselect the MIC after doing so).
Did you verify the volume levels when the problem occurs? The volume control in some external apps actually adjust the master volume...
Are you sure that it is not a Ventrillo (or server side) problem.
Double check your speaker/headphone connections.
There really is not a whole lot with kX that would cause such intermittent problems.

Russ, Thanks for responding. I reset AC97 and the sound came back.DOH! Below is what you asked for. I'll acid test the reset for a couple of days and post if all is well, (and if I'm a stupid Noob. LOL) or if I'm still having problems.
I'm able to hear other windows sounds while running Vent, including games. Vent has run well during gaming or running mp3/wave files with the drivers. The audio of my games is not effected when Vent goes quite. Vent's audio does not drop out during a sesion. I'll open Vent after it's been working fine for a few days and I'll have no audio. Others can hear me when I que the mike.
Vent setup.
The wave device I'm using is- kX Wave sb0090 01k2 [d000]0/1 for input and out put.
Hardware input is set to none. If I set it to whats listed above I get a Vent error message.( InputFindVolFader failed(1) for non-Mux based mixer)
Vent inbound is set at 10. output is set at -5.
Direct sound is on for in/output devices.
Note: I have to use push to talk. I'm unable to adjust the sensitivity of the mike.
System inputs and master Vol are set at 90%. No clipping or distortion.
Speaker-headphones/server is Ok.

That would seem to indicate that something caused the AC97 settings to get messed up (some setting beyond what kX normally works with). It happens occasionally, I am not sure what causes it (maybe a power surge or something). Occasionally I will completely lose a channel, and Resetting AC97 is the only thing that will bring it back. Rebooting does not necessarily correct the problem.
It is possible that it was just in some weird state that caused the intermittent problem, and the above may have corrected it such that it does not happen again (unless of course something causes it to get out of whack again). I guess just keep in eye on it and see if it happens again.

Wel it happend again. about 20 min after resetting. I tried resetting again, rebooting atfter resetting. On go. Fix the prob. Bought a X-FI card. Now everything works like it should. Thanks for all the help. It may have been a glitch in the cards componets. Who knows. I'l come visit again when Kx starts supporting X-Fi. Shame. I really liked the drivers. Again thanks and keep up the great work developers.

Sorry to hear that, I guess the fact that it came back after resetting AC97 previously, was just coincidental. Another thing you might try (if you did not completely remove the card), is to re-seat it in the PCI slot, or maybe move it to another one.
Intermittent problems can be hard to diagnose at times, as when it starts working again, you can never be completely sure if it was because of something you did to try and fix it, etc. Again I cannot think of much as far as kX goes that would cause such intermittent problems, which leaves possible issues with an OS component or Ventrillo, etc. Assuming that the problem does not recur with the X-FI, then I would guess that is not the case, and would look at possible hardware issues (again, try re-seating the card, etc, maybe try the card in another PC (if you have access to one)).
In any case, I hope that the X-FI works out good for you (AFAIK, it is not likely that that kX will ever support the X-FI).

I do plan to install the card into another computer and test it out. It may take me awhile to get around to it. The other comuter is due for a good cleaning so I'll install it then. Again thank you Russ.
