Can I use Minidisc out (optical) to SBLive?

Ok, here is what I got:

Technics SJ MD100 Minidisc deck with analog in and optical out. It can be used in Monitor mode.
Technics AD Converter is 20 bit.

SBLive 5.1 ( 5 holes on the back, 4 I know what they are, the Orange one I don“t know, Digital out I suspect.)

Can I use this in a cheap and constructive way?
Can I connect my optical to SB somewhere?
If it can be done: How much money? How much sawing and hammering?
And will I get much better recording quality then if I just do it like now, line - in?

Hope someone knows what I mean...

Define more

I suppose you would like to record from your MD to the PC, as you described the IO's of your MD you said that it has an optical out, right?
Do you have a Live! alone or with it's Live!Drive? Cause if you have the last one there is already an optical SPDIF IN to connect the MD

As far as I know the Live! has five holes which are:
1. analog & digital out (front spkr)
2. line in (analog too)
3. Mic in
4. line out (analog too)
5. Rear spkr out
Plus a firewire (optional)

The only digital in, is inside the card mentioned as CD SPDIF in and can be used to connect a CD/DVD rom.
I suppose what you need some kind of converter from optical to coaxial and I don't know if there is any.

Anyway, I have recorded with both ways from my MD (digital & analog) and the sound quality is perfect in both cases.

Unless using a very very bad cable ,no loss will be audible if we use an analogical cable instead of a numerical cable...
I also notice that many professionals in the sound still use analogical material...
Thus numeric doesn't relate us, unless using a 5.1 system...
