Vista RTM and Native SPDIF Surround

No chance for 4.1/5./etc... in Vista RTM on the 3538x drivers (without ASIO support, obviously) via SPDIF?

Any solutions other than, redocneXk.
And no, I currently cannot hook up my Analog FL/FR, SL/SR, and C/LFE outputs to my reciever.

Will 3539 be the only hope?

Thanks for your replies, in advance.

P.S. The sound quality of the kX drivers are phenomenal in comparison to that of Creatives offering. Wonderful work thus far, it does not go unappreciated.

Oh, and my Soundcard is the SBAudigy Platinum EX.

Not for Vista, not for anything else - not now and not for a future - just because there's no such possibility in pure SPDIF (e.g. you just have no hardware capable of that - neither soundcard nor reciever)

Hope for uncompressed multichannel stuff through spdif? No - see above.

please read this thread to understand the difference between pure spdif, and compressed multichannel signals like ac3(dolby digital) and dts

Ahaaaa, thank you gentlemen for showing me the light. I have just installed AC3Filter and cannot get it to play nicely with the kX drivers.

Is AC3Filter capable of encoding all (Global) sounds from my operating system (Vista) into an AC3 stream that can be outputted via SPDIF?

Currently my Deocder Info as:

Input format: Unknown - 0
User format: PCM24 3/2.1 (5.1) 0
Output format: Unknown - 0
Use SPDIF
SPDIF status: No data
SPDIF passthrough for: MPA AC3 DTS
Use AC3 encoder (do not encode stereo PCM)
SPDIF as PCM output Check SPDIF sample rate (allow: 48kHz)
Query for SPDIF output support

Also, trying to edit the mixer matrix with any values on C/SR/SL/LFE gives me an "incorrect value" error. Any help would be appreciated. Runing Vista RTM, btw.

AC3 Filter does not encode AC3, it just decodes it. AC3 encoding take quite a bit of horsepower, or specialized hardware, to acomplish. The only time the Audigy can spit out an AC3 signal over SPDIF is when it is playing back a source that is already encoded into AC3 (DVD, HDTV, .AC3 file, etc.). AC3Filter simply lets you take that AC3 stream, and decode it to a specific number of channels, depending on your setup, or it can send the unmodified AC3 stream out the SPDIF on the audigy.

Hmm this brings up an interesting Q.... I hear vistas DRM will deactivate SPDIF with protected content... Does this mean KX wont output SPDIF in that case as well - or ????

But - in case some lurchers read this... there IS an AC3 ENCODER - not sure if its tested in Vista or not..?? RedocneXk - Courtesy of Tril.
redocneXk released - Realtime 5.1 ac3 Encoder

The OP was asking about solutions OTHER than redocneXk.

Which isn't really clear/true.
