fixing 3538l memory issue
as I suspected, the problem is related to WinRar:
just re-rar all your KXS files with 'solid' option disabled and you will get rid of 30Mb
you can use winzip and zip the skin file instead
this should also fix the bug with EFX plugins (too slow start-up issue)
this will be fixed in 3538m

HI Eugene:
Ah, I have WinRAR installed, too, but kX Mixer shows 50 MB memory usage in Task Manager on my system. Thanks for the info.
Ignorance: KXS files? Would that be kX skins? here are those files on my hard drive, Wondows/System32 folder? I really don't expect Eugene to answer this, but, please, somebody help me out here?

@Eugene,
Thanks for the info. I re-packed the skin files (zipped using WinZIP), and that brought kxmixer down to around 7 to 8MB on startup (which is definitely an improvement over 30MB). It also seems to help with the loading time of the EFX plugins, but they still use quite a bit a memory (like 25MB for EFX TubeDrive).
<edit>
Ok, I see that the EFX TubeDrive .kxl file contains (merged) a .RAR file of it's kxskin.ini, and that is what is causing it to still use so much memory. I re-packed that too, and it seemed to help further with the load time (of the gui), and it made a huge difference with the memory usage (down to something like 1MB (for the plugin)).
</edit>
@thomasabarnes
Rename the .kxs files in your Windows\System32 folder to *.rar, and then extract each of them into their own folder, re-pack the contents of the new folders, and then rename the packed files back to *.kxs, and copy them back into Windows\System32 (then of course you can delete the .rar files, and the folders used for extraction, etc).

Man I tried repacking, and renaming, but I'm doing something wrong. Why doesn't somebody just do it the way it's suppose to be, pack it all in a zip and make it available for download? That way we can just extract the contents to the System32 folder and overwrite the old files.
Now, my Windows Task Manager is showing 69 MB memory for kX Mixer.
EDIT:
I got it done, now. kX Mixer is using 9 MB. I missunderstood the renaming part. The renaming should be done as you repack, I was thinking you make it an .rar, place it in System32, then rename it.
Thanks for the info Eugene and Russ.

Don't get me wrong this work around is really nice, but after repacking, and renaming, now, I have a problem with my right click menus for the kX system tray and the kX DSP. For example, the word menu and ?? are to the left and right of every thing on the kX system tray right click menu. For instance:
menu kX Mixer ??
menu kXX DSP ??
Menu kX Router ??

@thomasabarnes,
I have been doing some tests (with WinRAR and WinZIP), and I noticiced that problem too. It seems to be a problem with WinRAR, I do not know if it is the version we are using or what, but kX does not seem to like it much. The kX menu gets all messed up (and you cannot use MAX compression because it causes it to eat memory).
In any case, using WinZIP does not seem to have any problems thus far. I am working on fixing all the files that need fixing (including the .kxl's), and when I am done, I guess I can put them on my site for people to download.

Ok, I put the file up on my site (SkinFix.zip).
Take note of which files are in the zip archive, and back up the original versions if you didn't kill them allready .
Quit kxmixer.
Then extract all files to Windows\System32 replacing any files when prompted.
Start kxmixer.
Re-register all replaced plugins (.kxl files, not the .kxs files) by double clicking on them (except for kxfxadc.kxl if you have new ProFx installed).
Can you test it out and see if it gives you any problems?
BTW: The file is a little more than 2MB.
<edit>
You might have to re-register kxskin.kxs as well. I just noticed that I was missing all the sliders in kxmixer, and I am not sure if I did something when I was testing to mess it up, or what, but re-registering that file fixed it.

Thanks Russ,
Downloaded zip file from your site and copied only Kxskin.kxs as others are not used - Kx used to output pure 24/96 via spdif.
Memory usage dropped from 32MB to 7MB.

Russ:
Was gonna confirm that using Winzip had my right click menu looking the correct way.
I had just re-.rared the 4 skin files and had a memory drop from 69 MB to 9 MB.
I downloaded and extracted the .zip file you posted got a memory usage of 8 MB, then when I load new presets for kX DSP, memory goes up to like 12 MB.
The DSP plugins that took some seconds to pop up the GUI, (for example, EFX ReverbStation, Dynamics Processor, etc), now loads nearly as fast as LeMury's ProFX plugins. hehe
Thanks for the .zip.

I will leave the file on my site so others can use it if they want. If anyone has any problems with it, let me know.
@thomasabarnes
Thanks for testing and reporting back.
@Eugene
Thanks again for the info (and kX ).

I am removing the file since it should no longer be needed (3538m is out, if you did not notice).

You do not have to use WinZIP, it just should be in ZIP format, 7-Zip or any program that can create ZIP archives should work fine.

Edit:Ok ,as i have asked you already answered ,Thanks! :-)
+++++*****7-zip can't do rar's.
It is ok to put zip and rename zip in "kxs" too?***********
Anyway:
The size from 180K of the rars is now 370kb.
Is ok anyway ,or should i try to compress the files more in zip?
The ram usage is now lot better ,thanks

That is up to you, I don't think kX cares either way. I did use the max compression when I did it, but I did not really compare the file sizes to see how much it differed from the originals.
