Does kxd support PCI-express?

I'm using a shuttle barebone pc and have only 2 slots for extension cards: 1 PCI-Express 16x which is used by my graphics card and a spare PCI-Express 1x slot.

The Compatibility List mentions that kxd doesn't support USB-sound devices so my last chance to get this working is to find a PCI-Express soundcard.

So, does anybody know a pci-express soundcard that works with the kx drivers?

By the way: I have an onboard Envy-soundchip from VIA. Is there perhaps another way to get the kx drivers working on my machine?[IMG]chrome://dictionarytip/skin/btnshow.jpg[/IMG]

KX only works for creative labs cards besed on the emu10k1 or emu10k2 chips, and creative doesn't make a PCI-ex card. They have stated that they do not plan on creating a card for PCI-Ex because it has such a high overhead, that it is really not suitable for audio applications.

PCIe is designed for graphics and high data transfer, but audio sends very small packets and the overhead can be very big! Moving the data across PCIe is much, much higher than PCI. So what we have to do is go back to the drawing board and work on the transport part of the chip and re-design it to add more silicon to overcome some of the problems we had with PCIe. So for us to come up with a PCIe solution is going to take a while because we have to overcome the problems we're facing with that bus.

Anyway, kx doesn't support it.

ps: is it me or this forum doesn't support the [IMG] tag?
