Stairsteps is on a distinguished road

SONAR 6.1 and ASIO

Hi eveyone, im glad to be part of this forum and would like to say im in total gratitude for Eugene saving my Audgy 1 Platnium Ex.

I have been into making music with my PC for longer than you wanna know. Im a member of the Stairsteps. And I started with music back in the seventies lol.

Ok what i would like to add is I work with Sonar, have been ever since cakewalk audio 9, And I find it a good product, I just recently upgraded my DAW, I was using AMD, now im using INTEL.

What I found is that when I switched over to INTEL my Audigy Ex Platnium would no longer update, It can update on the AMD system I have but not this new E6600 INTEL.

Even tried a different INTEL with all different parts but same problem.

I said to my self its either get another soundcard 0404 EMU or stick with this Audigy but I just couldnt stick with audigy cause it was starting to give me BSOD with certian games.

I was about to give up, when I saw a thread pointing to this kxproject driver.

All problems with INTEL have been solved.

Ok I called up Sonar 6.1 and the WMD Drivers worked flawless. I could get the same control over my project as I got with Creative Control panel.

Kx Panel is WAy more complicated than the creative one but it seemed all I had to do was go into the Record section and turn up Mic 2 so I could get my Mic to work , Im routeing my Mic thru the Audigy 1 Ex Breakout box. once I did that everything was set up perfect.

The Problems I had were with ASIO and Sonar, First up Sonar with open up like 14 ASIO inputs for you to use and 14 outputs.

I had to get rid of all the inputs except output kx 00, second thing I had to do was go into the kx DSP and re route the Mic 2 output to the ASIO 0 and ASIO 1 tabs.

Almost done but when I record I find that I was getting feedback bleeding into the Mic2 record track on Sonar from my other Tracks. Of course WMD isolates this so this dosent happed but ASIO still needs more routing to be done so I opened the Kx Router. And had to play with the send bus untill I was able to get my Mic 2 to Record but not get any bleed thru from the other tracks which are playing at the time.

Well mission accomplished cause I kept opened the 14 outputs in Sonar I was able to assign the sound to other outputs and keep my Mic2 isolated on output 00.

Quite a job but I must tell you im at 2ms latency and loving it.

Also Im a part time gamer , which is why I have stuck with Creative for so long.

Every new game I have Oblivion, GTR2, Neverwinter 2 Armed assault All work with EAX even.

Using the new 3538L I was using the old 3537 and had a few problems not getting Oblivion to play sound correctly, all fixed with this revision.

System specs

ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium Intel edition mobo
INTEL E6600 Core Duo 2
2 gig Kingston PC 5300
SATA-320 gig
Nvidia BFG 8800 GTS
Creative Audigy 1 Platnium Ex With Breakout box and phantom XLR converter for Mic
Viewsonic VA912b - 19 inch LCD
BFG 650 Watt
Antec NineHundred Advanced Gaming Case

Old system

AMD64-3800 X2
ASUS A9V Mobo
2 gig Corsiar
Nvidia 7800gs AGP
Creative Audigy
550 watt OCZ

this system went to my wife. shes so friggin happy.

I miss the Rock solid stability I got out of the AMD but this INTELL system is at least twice as fast 3 times in some cases.

Yeah - KX handles ASIO routing MUCH differently - you need to learn how to customize the KX DSP config to do most of what you would want.

There are good guides available - much is somewhat aimed at Cubase - but the KX parts are very similar - not to mention - most would eventually customize the KX DSP for their particular needs / way of working / hardware used.

I dont use sonar 6 currently - I plan to before too long, but I dont imagine too much has changed.

Heres a little summation;
- Learn about ProFX - it replaces the significant parts of the defualt DSP plugins used - which are aimed for a '1 size fits all' multimedia / general computing audience.

The ProFX ASIO (partially replaces EPILOG) - is the 'recording' bus that becomes 'INPUTS' into sonar.
The EPILOG also contains physical outputs like a 'MONITOR' buss. This is also accessable by the ProFX/KXlt plugin.
PROLOG - is the default plugin used to bring physical INPUTS into the KXDSP - so one needs to rout those into the ASIO (eplilog or ProFX/ASIO) links into sonar - which are not (like Creatives setup) by default.

ASIO playback is found in the KX DSP on the FXBUSS - this is replaced as 'peices' by ProFX/SRC. If you look at KX Router - you see that ASIO (by default) is routed to FXBUSS 0-16 (ASIO0-16 respectivly)

ProFX/ADC - also partially replaces PROLOG - but only provides the AC97 based inputs most likely found on the back ot your audigy sound card (as opposed to the breakout box - which prolly contains line/mic 2 etcc and are NOT ac97 based - and are available on PROLOG or ProFX/SRC)

Also - note: find the latest updates for ProFX as the ones included with KX has some bugs.

Also - If I remember correctly - the Platinum EX had some bugs with KX - check the 'compatibility list' and search these forums for more info on that - maybe its fixed in latest KX release ??

The guides: (and dont forget to search the forums too.

Any more specific questions are usually answered pretty quickly, so dont be affraid to ask.

Thx for your help , as I have stated in the above post i made all problems solved, but i gave a solution as to how i solved them, but thanks for your input non the less the links you gave are invaluable.

Aslo I have complete comptability with Audigy 1 Ex Platinum no problems except for the new bug that cropped up with a buzzing sound while the record button is pressed then pressed off.

As far as Sonar 6 goes its a hole new beast not just a simple update. Tons of new features and things are not in the same place as they use to be with Sonar 5.

Sonar 6 has better 64bit support new Audiosnap features and a host of new things in it. Its not like the upgrade we got from Sonar 4 to 5 its like going from Cakewalk Audio 9 to Sonar 6 thats the vast improvement.

Ok - cool glad to hear...

but what I meant was ASIO support, I doubt little has changed - it would otherwise support multiple ASIO devices if it did, I would *think*.
