How to record playing audio?

After a day of struggle with the kX mixer I give up - I can't force my pc to record playing audio files, no matter whether it's from a video, mp3 or wav. I just can't believe that drivers such advanced in that matter can't do such simple thing, which I do without problem with my old pc with SB 128 PCI (Creative drivers) on board. All you have to do there is switch recording to the lsat option ('Stereo mix' or something) and in recording programs (I used EAC and Audacity) volume bar starts bouncing joyfully. Some specs: WinXP, SB 0220 Live! 5.1 digital, kX 3538l, headphones and speakers connected to 2 audio-outs. Here are presets I use:

PLAYING:
kX default - http://www.tkdami.pl/~nob/kxdefault.kx
simple stereo one - http://www.tkdami.pl/~nob/stereo.kx

RECORDING:
Line In recording - http://www.tkdami.pl/~nob/nob_LineIn_recording.kx
Mic recording - http://www.tkdami.pl/~nob/nob_Mic_recording.kx

Unfortunately, I haven't found why changing AC97 settings to 'Stereo Mix', 'Mono Mix' doesn't work in recording program. Please, help me if you know what I do wrong.

Warm Greetings for everyone,

PS Sorry about the mess with triple posting - I had some problems with saving my post because of losing connection with the site. I managed to delete the unneeded posts.

Maddogg6 will become famous soon enough

goto KX Mixer/recording page - and set 'WAVE RECORDING LEVEL' level slider - and make sure 'Master recording level' is adjusted as well.
AC97 - is 'physical' inputs like Line / Mic /Aux etc... the stereo mix ONLY means a 'mix' of those inputs coming out of PROLOG and has nothing to do with 'WAVE PLAYBACK' - which are coming from FXBUSS instead.

Its also recommended that you read the guides found here too as well as the KX help file.

Thank you Maddogg6!

And, o stupidity of mine Haven't thought about such a simple thing. Everyting works fine now. I agree with your advice, too. Still, I have to find the time to get through some guides. As for now it's somewhat overwhelming for me, especially when I want to find one particular answer.

Thanks once again,
nob
