Traktor 3 and external mixer

Hi, I appologise if this has been discussed already in detail and that I'm starting to sound like a broken record (get it?!). Basically i am trying to use Traktor DJ Studio 3 with an external mixer. I have had this working fine with the default Creative sound drivers for my Creative Player Live! 5.1 SB0100. I am able to select DirectSound outputs 1 and 2 for left deck and 3 and 4 for the right desk and route them directly to two line ins on the mixer. It wasn't until I wanted to use Ableton Live that I found a need for kX audio as Ableton doesn't recognise more than 1 channel.

Now I've installed kX (the latest version) I am unable to configure all the bells and whistles to make Traktor work using ASIO. I have tried all the different outs 0/1 6/7 8/9 etc. I have set the surround+ to 5.1 Direct and also tried 4.1 Quadro, nothing seems to provide audio out of the both the green and black line out jacks.

Tried disabling the swap audio and still don't get anywhere. I've read as much documentation on this as I can but as yet unable to see what I'm doing wrong.

I can make Traktor mix the two decks trhough one channel and I can get one deck playing through one channel but just can't find the other channel for the other deck.

If any more information is required I can provide and could any suggestions be put in simple step by step commands as kX is a new concept to me.

I am running an Athlon X2 with 2GB RAM on XP SP2.

Cheers in advance.

Use ASIO 4/5 for front, and ASIO 6/7 for rear.

I set Channel A Left to 5: kX Out 04
Channel A Right to 6: kX Out 05
Channel B Left to 7: kX Out 06
Channel B Right to 8: kX Out 07
and I get no sound.

If I change the Soundcard from kX ASIO SB0100 5.1 [8c00] to either DS kX Wave SB0100 [8c00] 0/1 or DS kX Wave SB0100 [8c00] 4/5 (this is in the Traktor preferences) I get sound but only from one Channel as there are only 2 options to choose from.

I do not have Traktor myself, so I am not sure if there is any special configuration (in Traktor) that you need to do to get it to work, nor why it does not show all the kX Wave Devices, but kX Wave 4/5 and kX Wave 6/7 should also work (if you had access to them). You could make it work using kX Wave 0/1 and kX Wave 4/5, but it would require a custom DSP config (and ASIO is probably the better way to go anyway).

Are you using the default DSP config (with the exception of Surrounder's settings)?

Try connecting a Peak plugin to FxBus 4/5 (5th and 6th pins) and another one to FxBus 6/7 (7th and 8th pins), and see if you see a signal on the peak plugin, when playing something in Traktor (using ASIO 4/5 and 6/7). If you see the signal, but it is not getting to the sound cards outputs, then Surrounder is probably configured wrong (or one of the outputs is muted).

BTW: Also make sure that Traktor's sample rate/bit depth matches the setting in the ASIO Control Panel (default is 16 bit / 48 kHz).

???

Russ

I tried what you said above about connecting a Peak to the FX Bus, unforntunately I did not get any indication of sound going through, I tried every pair of outs on the FX Bus.

Within Traktor I can set one audio device - usally just selecting the aound card. Then within the outputs screen you assign the various outputss associated with the audio device. So when i select kX ASIO I get about 16 difference outputs that I can assign. As I said previously I got no response from the Peak meter.

When I changed the audio device to Wave 4/5 or Wave 0/1 I get a a response, but if i select either of those two for a Sound device i can only choose one pair of channels, which means only one deck outputs a sound.

I wonder whether Traktor doesn't pick up kX properly.

Any more suggestions?

I know from other threads in this forum, that Traktor 3 does work with kX, I just do not know any of the particulars about setting it up.

i.e. Take a look at the following thread:
Setting up outputs for Traktor 3 (audigy2zs)

I will download the demo, and see if I can give you more specific info.

Unfortunately it seems that I cannot use the demo. It crashes (EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION) when I try to run it, and the crash info does not give any clues as to what the problem might be.

This was the last thread I read before I posted, but I'll take another look at it. Perhaps its my card making things difficult, as he was using a Audigy, I'm using a good (questionable) ol Live! 5.1 SB0100.

I'll double check my Surround+ setting is set to 5.1 direct path. By the way, if I set that does the Windows Sound properties have to also be set to 5.1?

Windows should always be set to 5.1 with kX.

I did eventually get the demo to open, but I could get no sound from it at all, and it was unstable when trying to change output settings. I do not know if the demo is just buggy, or if it doesn't like something about my system or what, but considering the problem you are having, maybe there is an issue with it and kX 3538L. Has anyone been able to successfully use Traktor 3 and kX 3538L (using ASIO)?

i did notice that if I change the kx Outs if ASIO is selected that I can't play anything, or at least nothing seems to happen when I hit play. If I go back in to teh Audio preference and open the latency contracl panel box and press OK it unfreezes and then starts playing, albeit with no sound. I did have more success with sound using 3537 kX but didn't get all the kX Outs that I get with 3538L. Perhaps I'll try a version inbetween and see if that fixes the issue. Also the Demo is prior to all the traktor updates, so it may be buggy.

If you are going to try a version between 3537 and 3538L, then I think 3538j would probably be the one to go with.

I never had problems with any previous version of KX and Traktor. So 3538j should work.

I ended up using 3538J and I have now had more luck.

Firstly there is no issue with playing using the ASIO sound device within Traktor, whereas before the track wouldn't play, I don't mean just no sound, I mean no movement of the track. Now it does. I played around with the DSP, ended up clearing the whole thing and just adding the FXBus and Epilog. I attached the peak meter to each pair of outputs 0/1 2/3 4/5 and assigned within Traktor Channel A to kX out 0/1, channel B to 2/3 and Channel C to 4/5. I got a reading off all three FXBus pairs 0-5. I then routed these to L and R, sL and sR and Centre and LFE. And it all worked!!! I now have 3 channels output to the three faders on my mixer!

I do think that 3538L doesn't like Traktor very much, but now that I've found a working version I will probably stick to it and not touch the DSP or anything else as its all too complicated.

Cheers folks for the help and advice

Yes, can somebody confirm please.
Do you think it may be related to 10k1 only boards?

Ill Try it on one of our Traktor setups. We use 3538J with no issues, only thing I had to do was put the latency at about 69ms to get rid of crackles an pops.
10k2

Im keen to try the new drivers too, Im about to install 3 new Traktor setups all running off KX works Great

Someone should probably try 3538k at some point as well (if they cannot use 3538L).

Im Running the latest version of Traktor 3.1.3 or something like that, Audigy 2 ZS
I only use the normal Epilog, not the Epiloglt_k2, with FXbus. this goes to a Calrec sound desk as 4 st pairs. the 3538L seems to work ok. 3538J worked very well with traktor, only thing i had to do was put the latency to about 69ms to reduce pops and clicks. but since for me traktor is an output only device its not an issue
