??? Dumb install question on SBLive

After 5 hours still unable to install kX. I must have rebooted over 30 times now.

The Control Panel>Sound and Multimedia Properties>Hardware shows that
the kX game port has loaded OK, but whenever I unload the Creative Live
WDM and load the kX driver, after the next reboot the plug-n=play reloads
the Creative Live WDM. I have tried doing installing it in safe mode, and
everything else in the Win2K/XP instructions in every permuation, as far as
I can tell, but always it comes up with the Creative Live WDM again.

There must be something I am missing: anyone have any clues please?

Cheers

The gameport?
That's not really a problem, that's for joystick support, and that will work with either driver fine...

If, however, you mean that the AUDIO card is always detected as a creative, and not as a kX emu10k1/2, then, what exact card type are you trying this with?

Yes, I just mentioned that to show that there was some drivers being loaded.
I guess my problem is how to defeat plug-and-play when it adds Microsoft's default
driver.

The card is an SB Live Value.

you can delete a inf file in the Windows folder

To invoid reinstall the Creative WDM driver after reboot, you can del the inf file something like 10kx.inf(whatever,use searching),be ware it's proberty is hidden, just change it's name or del it after you uninstall the driver(don't reboot first)

Still no joy

Thanks for the tip on the .inf files.

Unfortunately it didn't work. I have tried to run through all the installations again
five or sixe times, varying the order and whether I am in safe mode etc etc
but it is a loser's game and frustrating.

Also, I have tried to run setup.exe a couple of times: just as before it gives 4 screens
talking about certificates with no package name available, then up pops
the Windows message saying that it has found SBLive (at which stage the
built in drivers get reinstalled) and then finally the message that it can install
the KX 10k1 Audio-Game port. If I reboot (when the setup tells me, not Windows),
I get the built-in drivers. If I delete the drivers and rename the 10k1 files, it still
reloads the SBLive drivers.

Any other ideas from anyone? I really suspect there must be some step
missing from the instructions, required when you already have an SBLive
installed or something.

Help still very welcome!

Have you tried to update your driver from the control panel - system - devices(I think, my language is swedish) - sound video and game - creative wdm - drivers - update driver - install from a list - don“t search, I choose myself - if you see kx driver here choose it and continue.
I have installed kx drivers several times with no problems but one time Creatives kept coming back and this update driver thing helped. Good luck! And also, have you checked that your card number is comptible with kxdrivers? see FAQ on kx site.
