HELP! soundlaster slows down my PC!!

here is the rig:
Mobo: GA-8SRX from Gygabite
CPU: P4 - 1.7 GHz
Mem: 265Mb 266mhz ddr
Sound card: SBlive!
Video card: Geforce 3 ti - 200, 128MB
OS: Windows 2000pro + sp3

The thing is when I istalled the drivers that come with the Sound card, I knoticed slowdowns, the system would slowdown when you were extractin a big zip file, I couldnt even listen to musik while extracting rars and zips.
The game performanse have droped.....
I've d/l and installed a newer versin of the drivers, it didnt change a thing

Now I unistalled the drivers and installed the kxproject drivers from www.kxproject.com, and suddently the speed came back!!!!!
BUT I've soon found out that this new drivers do not have DirectSound 3d hardware support!!!!!!
And the overal sound quality with this new drivers is somewhat vorse

So what am I to do?!?!
I want a good sound in games, but I want them to run smoothly!

"Welcome to the real world." It's a trade-off 'tween performance or quality. You might want to try installing the SB latest drivers, then re-instalilng DX9 on top of it in case the SB install copies over some of the DX .dlls, that might get ya some speed back.

Either live without support for DS3D and EAX or live with it but pay the price.
There is no ideal driver that would have both.

Thanks ofr the DX sugestion, I will try it. But now when I think about it, how can creative sell cards to pople if they know that the cards degrade performance
