You would have to ask Eugene about that, but, aside from being able to be used as another stereo input, those channels are not missing, they are used for 3D sound, but I believe that they are only enabled (as far as FxBus goes) when you choose a 6.1/7.1 preset in Surrounder, otherwise you have to enable it manually using kX Console (shw 20 1).
You say that normally you have the VOIP sounds only in the headphones (with other sounds (i.e. game 3D sound) in the speakers)? As far as I know, that is not possible witih the Creative driver (without a second sound card, which is the best way to do it), so I am not sure how you were able to do that previously. If you want to do this with kX, then it is probably best to have your VOIP software use kX Wave 0/1, and disconnect FXBus(0/1) from xrouting and connect it directly to epilog (whichever connection you have your headphones attached to). Under this setup, your VOIP sounds, as well as normal stereo audio (Windows sounds, mp3's, etc) will be in your headphones, but your 3D game sounds will be in your speakers. There are many configuration possibilites that would do what you want (and do not forget that you can change the default Windows Sound device if you would like the Windows sounds redirected, and most music software allows you to do the same, so you should be able to route the different sounds, pretty much wherever you want).
