No sound output with audigy + kX
Hi
My creative drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy were giving me grief (buzzing and clicking whenever I used the mouse) so I uninstalled them and rebooted the computer. Upon reboot, windows wanted to automatically install drivers but I declined.
I downloaded the kX project drivers (latest .exe file) and installed, which went smoothly. Upon reboot, when windows is first loading I can hear the startup sound, but as soon as the kX mixer icon appears in the system tray, all sound is lost.
No sounds work: no mp3s, no wav sounds, nothing. Absolutely no output.
I have visited device manager and sound properties and everything appears normal - no warnings about conflicts or anything, it just says
kX WAVE SB0162 10k2 [b000] 0/1
for my volume control and similarly this is listed for my audio playback, recording and midi.
Does anyone know how to fix my problem?
Cheers

On the main page of kxmixer is a 'Toggle Swap Front and Rear' option that is enabled by default. If you have only one pair of speakers connected to the analog front output of the sound card, then you will haave no sound with that option enabled (in which case, disable that option, or connect your speakers to the analog rear jack).

It is possible that it did not install correctly. You might try doing a clean re-install (use Driver Cleaner Pro to completely remove kX and CL driver before reinstalling kX).

I tried that without luck.
Funny thing, when I get rid of all drivers and then reboot and install the kX drivers; after installation of the kX drivers I DO get sound (I click and choose to reboot later).
So for a while I have sound. Then once I reboot and hte kX Manager appears in my taskbar, I get no sound at all.
It is NOT the rear/front audio thing.

I have developed a workaround.
I went into msconfig and I disabled the kX manager from starting at startup.
So the drivers are installed, kX doesn't bother me in the system tray and the sound now works.
Whether this means I am getting full use of the drivers out of my soundcard or not I am not sure, but in sound properties the kX driver is listed and I am now getting sound so I am happy.

It really sounds like a configuration issue with kX, as it is normal to have sound before kX Manager loads, but once kX Manager loads, it restores settings from the registry (configuration parameters come into play). You will not really be able to do much of anything with kX using your workaround.
What OS are you running?
What version of kX?
What type of speaker setup (i.e. 2 speakers, 5.1 speakers, analog, digital, external receiver/decoder, etc?)?

Regular speakers connected to the green jack on the back of the sound card?
Try clicking on the 'Reset AC97' button on the AC97 page of kxmixer.
Verify that the 'Toggle Swap Front and Rear' option (Main page) is not enabled (if you are connected to the green jack (Analog Front)).
Also, verify that the Master Volume slider (Main page) and the Analog Front Volume slider (Ins and Outs page) do not read "inf" (if it reads "inf" then it is muted).
BTW: The latest version of kX is 3538j (download link is in this forum).
