Vista & kX Drivers

Hi All. New to the forums.

Microsoft released the public beta 2 of Windows Vista yesterday, so I went ahead and decided to try it out. Yeah, it works if your system meets the requirements, and takes a while to get used to and appreciate. There aren't that many bugs as I expected either. [Go here to get the beta]

Anyway, the kX mixer doesn't want to load right on windows Vista. I use a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card, which worked perfectly with the kX Project Drivers/Related in Win 2k and XP on the same setup. The Drivers are installed and show in the audio properties, and sound works [though through the rear speakers ], but the kX Mixer doesn't load and the Game Port drivers don't exactly work.

System Config [Custom Built]:
Intel D915GEV Mainboard
Intel P4 3.0 GHz Processor [630] with Hyper-Threading on
Windows Vista Beta 2 Public Build #5384 [x86 Version, used VMWare to install it to a clean drive before booting, didn't have a DVD Burner]
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 [works with XP/2k]
Let me know if you need more info

Install Process:
Tried 3537 and 3538j
- Download and launch
- Installs files fine
- Goes to install drivers, installs sound card driver
- Fails to install game port driver, windows reports it isn't working properly
- Driver install app complains drivers weren't installed correctly during the windows driver install error
- Rest goes smoothly
- Reboot
- Sound Works [rear speakers only -- default kX behavior]
- kX Mixer attempts to loads and complains the drivers were not correctly installed and to rerun driver setup, then exits.

So! Sound works fine, but the kX Mixer won't load. I suspect it doesn't like the fact the Game Port drivers didn't install.

I don't know if this belongs in the bugs forum or not, so I put it here. If anyone has some work-arounds I could try, please post. It's not critical I get it all working, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Maddogg6 will become famous soon enough

Just to be clear - KX was never advertised to work in Vista - but I guess, thanks for posting the results from your attempts.

Other than that - I supposed KX stands a 'better' chance of ever working in the 32 bit version rather than the 64 bit version of Vista - not sure which one you tried.

kX is 32bit, will not work in 64bit operating systems

however, kX has been tested by one member (nightbreed) on a much earlier version of vista (one of the longhorn beta's i think)

I said [though a little hidden] that I was using the x86 [32bit] version of vista.

i read that  but my post was to make sure that other viewers of this thread realise that kX is 32bit only

Btw which kX version are you using?
also you should be able to use the stock gameport drivers (kX really has no affect on these)

we dont need vista drivers, we need vista compatible managers(mixers)

I installed a lot of different Sound Blaster drivers(mostly works), and all have the same problem... the mixer doesnt work, without mixer i cant change the card to work at 5.1 channels and other things...

The driver wich worked better was Creative NGO modded driver at vista... but also mixer doesnt work... what so bad... all mixers dont recognize the soundcard

(i didnt chose kx drivers for vista because it invert front and rear channels, and i cant change without the mixer....)

yeah they do... but I believe that if we could get kx drivers work with mixers it would be better, because kx drivers have a lot of functions!

Vista and 4 speakers

I had been unable to get 4 speakers working with the nforce 2(soundstorm) or Creative Audigy2 sound cards.
I tried the beta from Creative SBA_2PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_002 and was able to change to 5.1 but it didn't have any sound from the rear.
I also am running the KX project kxdrv3537-full and have returned to stereo only but sound only comes from rear. After reading at the KX site I see that the Audigy2 Platinum cards use AC 97 for front and i2S for rear and the i2S is supposed to be clearer. It is recomended to swap front and rear outputs on your speaker system. that still won't give 4 speakers so I just use a stereo splitter that I had from another sound system and use stereo setting but with 4 speakers plugged into the rear output and use the i2S quality and the kx drivers.
It sound great.
