Digital Out + Headphones
Hello,
today I installed the KX Driver Version 3538j, I'm very impressed by the sound quality, but I've got some problems I could'nt solve. I want to set the KXMixer settings, so that I get sound through my headphones(stereo) and through the digital out(stereo, or 5.1), at the same time, First I'll write some information about my system, so it is easier for you all, to help me to solve my problem. - KXdriver version 3538j - Creative SoundBlaster Live! Gamer 5.1 - Sennheiser headset (headphones with microphone) - AV Receiver http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/guide/pic/hi-io.jpg I connected the headphone cable of my headset to (2)(green) and the microphone to (3) (the pink port) My Receiver is connectet to the orange port through a coax cable with an adapter, (before reinstalling windows this worked) I'n KXMixer, the speaker setting is set to 2.1 and Surround is on, i chose this setting because I get the far best soundquality ingame through my headphones with this setting, My problem is , that I can't hear sound through my AVReceiver ( which worked before i formatted my hdd and reinstalled windows ) Actually I want to, use my Headset/Microphone to play games, and when I listen to music I want to use my receiver, because of the better sound quality of the speakers I want this to work, without changing any settings or having to switch something in the mixer, so that the sound goes through the headset (2.1) and through the coax cable to the speaker (stereo, or digital if it works,) at the same time, If this works, I would then just turn the receiver of to play games or mute the receiver, and put the headphones on when I want to play counterstrike or wow and just put the headphones away and turn the receiver on when I want to listen to music Is there any solution for this? thanks for your help ,.. |

you use the coaxial output from the rear of the card? if so toggling the Digital Output Only option on the main kX mixer page will allow you to swap between your receiver and your headset

you cannot have both analogue and digital signal passing through the rear outputs, you do need to switch between modes in the mixer
the DOO switch should work for your purpose set the windows mixer to 5.1/7.1, and the kX surrounder to 5.1, just to see how it works then

yes that's possible, however you MUST use the DOO switch, as the orange connector is also the sub/centre channel on live/audigy 5.1 boards

On 5.1 models, DOO mode disables the analog outputs (it switches between analog output only and digital output only), but, they can be re-enabled using kX Console.
Try setting DOO mode ON, and then open kX Console and type: sac97 2 0 sac97 18 808 <edit> BTW: Make sure swap front and rear is not enabled in kxmixer, or you will not hear anything on analog front, with Surrounder set to 2.1. Last edited by Russ; Dec 10, 2007 at 08:39 PM. Reason: clarification |

Sorry to necropost but this is exactly what I want to do. Speakers for music, headphones for games. I have an Audigy2 zs. With the creative drivers I just had the speakers digital input plugged into the spdif and the headphones into the green output. Both speakers and headphones worked perfectly (and at the same time).
I did not move anything and the kxdrivers (5.10.0.3537)only work through the speakers. No sound to the headphones no matter where I plug them in. I know they work as it functioned fine before installing kxdriver. I did manage to get the mic working from the help pages but the help seems to be aimed at people that already know what they are doing which doesnt help kx newbs like me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

do you have the audigy 2 zs platinum? if so you'll need to, in the dsp, connect the front l/r outputs of the surrounder module to the headphones input on the epilog - headphones should work then - also make sure you un-mute and set the level to 0.0dB in the I/O window of the mixer

Hmmm, I do not think this should be an issue with the A2ZS.
Since you are using the Green jack, make sure that the "Toggle Swap Front and Rear" option in kxmixer is not enabled (not checked). Beyond that, I am not sure if 3537 fully supported the A2ZS, so you might consider trying a more recent version of kX (assuming that you are not using Win98SE/WinME). |

thanks for the replies guys
dj_stick: No platinum just the vanilla audigy2 zs. I know you are gonna cringe when I say this but how do I "in the dsp, connect the front l/r outputs of the surrounder module to the headphones input on the epilog"? Russ: I can try 3538 I guess, although 3537 seems pretty recent to me? WinXP pro on this machine. Last edited by ajb66; Dec 10, 2007 at 05:51 PM. |

As for the connections that dj_stick mentioned, it should not make a difference since you are not using a Drive Bay (i.e. you are using Green jack on rear of card). In any case, if you are using the default DSP config, those connections should already be in place. |

So I probably just have a skider in the wrong spot or something muted that should not be? It is difficult in the control panel to tell what is what. Confusing as to what is in and what is out to a KX newb like me.

The default settings after installing the kX driver (with the exception of the default "Toggle Swap Front and Rear" setting) should work.
i.e. After installing kX, uncheck the "Toggle Swap Front and Rear" option, adjust the Master Volume level as desired, and set Surrounder to whatever speaker mode you want to use. You should not have to do anything else. If you think you may have accidentally changed some setting (and do not know which setting): "Reset Global Settings" from the kX Settings menu (right click in kxmixer for menu) should reset kx back to the installation defaults. "Reinstialize the DSP" (right click in DSP for menu) should reset the DSP back to the default. I do not think that card model has a "Digital Output Only" mode option, but if it does, make sure that it is not enabled/checked (it would not be enabled by default). If the above does not work with 3537, then I would try a newer version of the driver (again, I am not sure if there was any issues with 3537 and A2ZS). |

In this case, since your headphones are connected to the jack that is normally associated with Analog Front Out, that is the slider (Analog Front) that you would use to control the volume of your headphones (as well as Master Volume on the "Main" page of kxmixer). |
