Entry 3 – date unknown – evening of day 2

The trek took me longer than I expected, no thanks to a short side-trip I was forced to take in order to get access to my destination. The trip involved infiltrating a military controlled facility, saving a stalker (looks like the general term around the Zone for mercenary is stalker) who then led me to the entrance of an underground bandit camp. My true objective was hidden in the camp – I was required to get some data before I would be allowed to get past the control point that lay between me and the settlement I was trying to get to.

If somebody will be reading this journal years from now it won’t be a big secret that I survived the whole underground massacre, else my previous entry would have been the last. The bandits were fairly easy to deal with, though they managed to flank me several times, even when I was fighting them one at a time. I wasn’t prepared to meet a human mutant down there though.

Thinking back I could have probably handled the whole encounter better, but when an invisible creature starts swinging at you all you can think about is survival. I wasted a lot of ammunition on the thing, but at least I remained fairly intact. I shudder at the thought of the possibility that there are other mutants roaming the Zone, possibly ones that are even less human than the invisible guy.

Getting the data was easy after that and I had no trouble getting past the check point when the guards saw the data stick I was carrying. A few hours later I was finally at my destination. A quick chat with the barkeep (who is apparently a very important figure, though I fail to see why) made me realize that my own identity would remain shrouded in mystery for a while longer.

I left the town minutes after arriving, headed for an abandoned military lab where more data was to be found. A few miles east from the lab I came across a small stalker settlement where I’ll be spending the night. Hopefully this is not my last entry…
