Re: What makes a game for you?

toss between originality and freshness/replayability, but the second option came out on top - there's no point paying full price for a game you're only going to play once - there's still quite a few games I own i'll bring out every now and then just to re-live the fun

i'm not much of a multi-player person, so it's more about the story and how involved I get in actually playing the character to me, sure graphics help, but a boring game is still a boring game

Re: What makes a game for you?

Yea I'm with you on that DJ, As much as I like a game, now we're seeing COD5 and the likes, I'm thinking maybe they need to bring in some fresh ideas, I find myself buying a game, ploughing through it in a week and then playing multiplayer for a few weeks before putting it away, never having the urge to play it again.

I'm all for multiplayer tho, but I still like a good story.

Re: What makes a game for you?

I voted other, I don't mind the other options but it isn't a major point for me. A game should hold my interest, it can be as good as sliced bread (although, the swiss unsliced bread is even better) but if it loses me, I don't play it anymore.
I had that with Morrowind, the latest one. I had that with Fallout 3. For some reason or another I am suddenly fed up with it and I won't play it anymore. I can't put my finger on what exactly caused it.. it just is.. :S

Re: What makes a game for you?

Out of the choices I chose Originality as it pertains to the storyline and overall feel of the game (Not sure if other would have been better).

Smooth gameplay and depending on the complexity of the graphics the game player shouldn't have to suffer performance loss due to bad coding like Crysis.

Re: What makes a game for you?

It's not just graphics. If it was I wouldn't love my Wii. It's about fun! And that can be interpreted and conveyed to a player in many ways. I guess, of the choices, originality is the closest.

Re: What makes a game for you?

Originality is one of the things that matter the least to me. Close second the online component. Just because a game is new/different it won't make it appeal to me. It has to have a variety of points. Good graphics is a must in 2009. They don't 'have to push the graphics card to the extreme, but ugly graphics are simply not acceptable. If I am going to look at a screen you will have to make it look good enough.

Interest in the subject, replayability, stability and as much as possible the game managing to draw me out of the real world and into the game's world. I want to feel like I am "there", whatever game it is, not that I am interacting of a piece of software.
So I guess I vote for "other".

Second option
I was thinkink about originality, but, as dj-stick said, you should play it more than a once.

Multiplayer support, but I also like a good story/single player campaign.

Storyline man. The first thing I care about. Then multiplayer then graphics.

Re: What makes a game for you?

Freshness/Replayability. I list good multiplayer under replayability. If you buy a game, you want to enjoy it for a long period of time.

Killer graphics are only a thing that can make you look forward to a game when it's not out yet. From the moment it's out, the gameplay becomes more important than the graphics.

I also rate originality highly: e.g. I loved the beach levels in HL2 where you had to pass the antlions by making a bridge with the gravity gun with all the rubbish lying around you. Just brilliant.

Re: What makes a game for you?

I would all of those choices make a quality game.

I picked MP because without it I just don't really enjoy the game as much.

Re: What makes a game for you?

I have no problem paying for a game even I am only going to play it once through. Example being Dead Space. 10-12 hours of gameplay, never touched it again. However it was one of the best 10-12 hours of gaming I can remember. Well worth it.

Re: What makes a game for you?

I play most games for the story, so my gaming runs mostly to good story based FPS games (Half Life 2), adventure games (Dreamfall), rpg's, and I am a huge fan of the the GTA series (VC being my favorite). Replayability is nice, and so is originality. Still, considering the # of books I read a week story is my top choice.

Cool! Re: What makes a game for you?

Impressive graphics aren't really important at all, what matters is that the developer was able to use an art style that suites the game and that they nail it . But what is most important is that the player has fun and is always discovering new things in the game each time they pick up and play, you always wan't them to walk away having gained something from the experience.
