StarCraft 2 Now A Trilogy, Three Campaigns to Be Split Into Separate Games

Blizzard today announced that StarCraft II will be released as a trilogy of separate games, each concentrating on one of the universe's three factions.

The first game in the trilogy will consist of the Terran campaign, and is set to be titled "Terrans: Wings of Liberty."

The second Zerg-focused title will be "Zerg: Heart of the Swarm," with the third game being "Protoss: Legacy of the Void."

Re: StarCraft 2 Now A Trilogy, Three Campaigns to Be Split Into Separate Games

has it been confirmed they are charging full price for each one ?

"[The second and third games] will be like expansion packs, but we really want them to feel like standalone products," said Blizzard's Rob Pardo.

I don't think price has been mentioned. Though as you posted, they do elude to them being treated as expansion packs... or as stand alones, depending on how you read it...

Let's wait for the prices, but, people no matter what, are not going to like this.

Personaly, I couldn't care less since I never liked Starcraft, but this move makes sense.
Let's see how the market (ie customers) react to this.

Re: StarCraft 2 Now A Trilogy, Three Campaigns to Be Split Into Separate Games

I'll save my freaking out for when the game is released, much like the controversy surrounding Diablo 3. I liked StarCraft and I love Diablo, so I hope these sequals live up to their names. Gotta give them the benefit of the doubt though , they are Blizzard. I can't imagine they are going to destroy their big ticket franchises and I've not been let down by them before.

One concern is that they are taking one game, splitting it in three and charging $50 for each piece (like what Allan was eluding to). I'd be surprised if they handled it this way, but I've been surprised before.

Re: StarCraft 2 Now A Trilogy, Three Campaigns to Be Split Into Separate Games

1Up says each game will be 26 - 30 missions long, so that would be about the same as the original game. Of course, I still hate to pay the current going rate for "hot" games, which seems to be about $60.

Judging by how long the original Starcraft lasted and how much support there was for it, we should get our money's worth.
