PS3 sales surpass Xbox 360 in Europe, says Sony

At Sony's PlayStation Day event, the company announced that it has sold more PS3 consoles than Microsoft has sold Xbox 360 consoles in Europe, despite the earlier launch of the latter.

SCEE president and CEO David Reeves said that Sony has sold 12 million PSP handhelds and 48 million PS2 consoles in Europe.

Well look at it this way. Japan support the PS3 on patriotic grounds as america supports the 360 for the same reason. Europe is neutral so the results may be due to the PS3 being the overall better system in gamers minds. Things like previous satisfactions with the old playstation consoles is no doubt a key factor.

I suspect more influnce has the 1)defects of the 360 console with all the returns that do not look good to potential buyers, and 2)Blue Ray player.

I think the blu-ray player had a lot to do with it.

If the PS3 did not have a blu-ray player in it there would be 0 reason to buy one other than if you like MGS or GT5.

Despite what you both say the 360 sells well in the UK and America which may reflect the demographs in those countries rather than being simply attributed to flaws; otherwise the PS3 would be outselling the 360 in america.

So I think it's more complicated than that.

Well its about brand names most of the time.

The Sony rep a while ago said flat out that no matter what the PS3 was it would sell and sell well.

He just about said if it was made out of cardboard and started on fire the first time it was used 1 million people would still spend the $600 and buy one.

I think next time around for the PS4 they will not get so lucky when everyone sees that all the good games that Sony had exclusive and just good games for the PS3 have all either went to 360 and nothing really special to come out for the PS3.

Unless people are that dumb will buy anything regardless how good it is.
