PS3 Firmware Update to Add New Blu-ray Features

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that the v2.20 PS3 firmware update, slated for release in late March, will add Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 or BD-LIVE, enabling PS3 owners to experience interactive features (such as downloadable video content, ringtones, games, etc...), the ability to copy photo and music playlists from PS3 to PSP, and many other new features.

in-game XMB? nowhere I see.... god damn it. Not being able to add friends, check/send messages in game is by fall the biggest downfall of the PS3.

I heard that it won't come out until this summer. It is one feature that is a priority. I think they just want to make sure it works perfectly.

I really hope its out in time for MGS4. Once they have that, the new PS Store and Home, 360 will have a big online rival.

That is interesting. I did not know that you could not do that in game. Having the 360 I don't know what I would do without those features lol.

But I am to waiting to see what Sony offers and see how cool that Home really is, what other features they can offer without lagging up the systems etc.

The biggest thing for the PS3 is that it's free online, and the 360 you have to pay $50 for 13 months since you get a bonus.

I could see Sony making the online a little better than XBL, but I would expect MS to have a come back!

The problem I see with "home" is that I figure you will have to buy everything you want in your house with real money and can see it kind of flop since people would not want to do that. Unless everything is all free then it would be really cool. If you have to pay for items etc maybe that's the way they will fund the servers?

Maybe ill spend $10 thats all... I don't mind paying for live because its a well maintained service. In addition, WLM on your 360 is icing on the cake. To me, I think its a great media center device. Only if ps3 had stuff like that or a controller with a compact keyboard. XMB is a very sharp design overall though. The PS3 is getting better slowly, it will take another year I think for it to reach its full potential.
