PS3 Firmware 2.17 Update
Sony last night unwrapped its latest firmware update for the Playstation 3, bringing the console to version 2.17.
According to a post at the official Playstation blog, the update improves the "operating stability of some online PS3 titles."
It has been months since the PS3's last firmware update. For a while, there were constant updates within a matter of weeks to fix bugs and glitches as well as adding new features.
Users can get the update by connecting their PS3 online or downloading it from playstation.com to some form of flash media card and placing that into the gaming system.

my media sharing is working correctly now.... but maybe it was because I resinstalled the damn codec pack again. My CoD4 downloading game settings issue is still screwed, I can rarely play the game. I was hoping for in-game XMB, once we have that and support for adding friends, the bridge between live and PSN's differences will be narrowing.
oh and I got me my new dual shock 3 today

It's odd... I've searched the PS3 forums, but there seems to be an issue with media streaming in the PS3 and the Linksys WRT54G. I couldn't say exactly what's causing it, but the router will reboot every time the PS3 looks for a media server. I've assigned a static IP to the PS3 and put it out of the DMZ like some forums suggested, updated the router to the latest firmware, etc... no dice.
I am very open to ideas/suggestions.
EDIT: I've tried to use the Vista Media thingy and ORB via WinAMP.

Have you tried firmware from DD-WRT :: News The bad thing about Linksys firmware as its limited on features and lacks frequent updates. I'm using the v24 RC6.2. You can use either dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin or dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54g.bin The mini has less options then the generic.

Yeah, I did see some people using 3rd party firmware to solve their issues. I've just been too chicken to try them. How are they in terms of usability compared to the factory GUI... I'm not too command line savvy anymore.

It's a GUI. There is no command line. There is a Wiki here: Main Page - DD-WRT Wiki
