Fans of the '80s side-scrolling beat-'em-up Golden Axe expecting a direct remake of the retro arcade favourite will be disappointed. Beast Rider's a complete re-imagining of the series and shares little in common with its arcade ancestor, save for a few visual nods and the idea of riding reptilian beasts into battle. The most obvious change is that, rather than choosing from a cast of three fantasy stereotypes, you now control only one - Tyris Flare, Amazonian warrior and wearer of impractical armoured hosiery. Gillus the dwarf and musclebound lout Ax Battler are still in it, but only as supporting cast.
