GH and DH Competition: Win a ATI 3870 GFX signed by Gabe Newell

Instead of rushing our 3870 review for launch date today, we decided an indepth analysis of the 3850, crossfire and the 3870 would be more in line with Driver Heaven's high quality reviews, so we apologise for the brief delay, however that said we have something just as cool for our readers today!

Driver Heaven, Gaming Heaven, AMD and Valve have teamed together to give away a brand new 3870 graphics card, signed by Mr Gabe Newell !

To enter just head over here and read the rules of entering, its pretty simple !

there isn't any mentioning if it is US-only or worldwide. So, if it is the latter, here is my contribution.
-Oh, i totally missed that line-

I love playing Day of Defeat, because one well-placed grenade took out the other team. I rock!
nah.. to be honest; I really like Day of Defeat because of the solid gameplay, great maps, the re-enforcements (maximum waiting time of 8 seconds when you get killed) that other fps's i played online lacked. And of course the variety of WW2 weapons. It's just a great game

Its worldwide, first line under "boring stuff" on the competition page.

"The boring stuff:
The competition will close on the 10th Of December 2007. Competition is open worldwide, multiple entries are allowed.
Driver Heaven, Gaming Heaven, AMD and Valve are not responsible for any stress caused by trying to win this competition. The final decision is the final decision, thats why its called the final decision, so we want to see no whinging, bitching or claims of "OMG, I never win im a loser, feel sorry for me I hope you all die" when it's over."

My favourite Valve game has got to be Half Life, I love it to pieces and still play it several times a year. If Gabe was single I would totally hit on him at the bar so I could tell my buddies, "yo you know the valve dude? wel I danced with him noob!"

It'd have to be the original Half-Life, my mate had gotten the game from one of those 12 games a year offer things, and he hadn't sent the slip back, his mum said he couldn't keep it and not to open it. So we cut school, opened it and sat in awe as we watched the unfolding train ride... memories.

We didn't get to finish it. His mum went mad and sent the game back anyway, it was the following christmas when I was able to finally pick the game up. lol

Mine would probably be Half Life 2. It was really the first game that re-introduced me to PC FPS gaming, and rekindled my obsessi.... love of PC hardware. In fact, I think I came to DH looking for information regarding the game.

Without it, I might never have been able to share my unique charm with the community! ...My apologies.

Favourite game ?
I thought it would be HL2 for ever and ever, but after I played Portal...

Well I played it a few times enjoying the computer voice and how it made me laugh. I played it because of the riddles, the voice (I caught myself actually on playing and waiting for the comments made by GLaDOS) and of course - I wanted the damn CAKE !!
And the ending score - thats where the tears came out...
After that I've played all the levels with commentary on, and again - it made me come to tears. God I wish I could meet the actress which gave voice to GLaDOS... and congratulate her (and Valve team, for the perfect script/monologues and riddles).

Awesome!

I've been too broke to upgrade for 2 years now, so a new video card would be a blessing. My favorite Valve game has got to be the original Half-Life. It was not only an amazing game on its own, but it inspired an incredible number of today's best mods and multiplayer games!

My Entry - My Favorite Valve Game

The original Half-Life is my pick, while HL2 was good, HL was cutting edge in your face kind of stuff. We as a gaming community were being exposed to some incredible visuals and some gameplay that required thinking as opposed to blind running jumping and shooting. When the game came out, I had been drooling in anticipation for some time, I had just upgraded my computer and was running ATI for the first time, I was impressed. That is my opinion, and by my own admission I am currently running an Nvidiot card, to which I have had nothing but problems (EVGA 8800 GTS), I recall having 0 problems with ATI, then and hope the new line of cards is powerful and capable of putting a thrash to Nvidia. Competition is the root of innovation, and also drives down the price for us Card Addicts who need a regular fix.

After I bought the first Half-Life, I couldn't stop playing the game: it was the first time I had adrenaline rushes while playing (hearing combine voices and then the nice sweet beat of the techno theme song - track 21 on the cd I think - man ! my heart was beating like crazy!)

But my favorite game is Team Fortress Classic (1). It's the first game where I tweaked the config files to create communications macros for each class. That's when I fell in love with programming ! ( I know now this was not programming per se !!)
When Steam was created and kind of imposed on us (i do like Steam though -they offer Psychonaut, what else can I say!), and I wanted to play TFC on servers I'd realized I gave my HL CD to a friend, and this bastard took my CD-key and created his own steam account ! I thus bought HL2 (superbe!) and got a stream ID. Nevertheless, not playing TFC was not an option, so I loaded Steam, punched my Visa number in and got TFC for 9,95!
I haven't tried TF2 yet, I'll switch when no one will be playing Dustbowl anymore (or if I have a good excuse to upgrade my barton based PC .

Cheers

I would like to say the entire Half Life series but if I have to select just one game, my favorite Valve game has to be Half Life due to its immersive gameplay; I will to this day never forget how much I leaped out of my chair when the headcrab jumped me while I was crawling through the ductwork in Half Life. No other PC game had ever drawn me in with such a cool and interesting sci-fi story, amazing gameplay and great graphics (for its time, of course).

My favourite VALVe game? I can't choose one, seriously, how can I? I mean, Half Life 1 changed the face of FPS gaming forever, changing the whole ethos behind them, before it we had mindless blasting broken up by key fetching, HL brought story driven gameplay to a new level.

So, you'll think, my answer is HL, but no, HL2 took what made HL great and magnified it to the nth degree, the story was subtle, yet brilliant, character animations and AI was out of this world, while the game was a whirlwind of breathtaking action and superb storytelling, one of the best games of the generation, and the main reason why the Orange Box is sitting near the top of the gamerankings list.

So, HL2 then? well, no, because there is one more game (Well, series), that needs attention, Counter-Strike, yes, not originally developed by Valve, but with their input it became the best competitive FPS ever created, yes, the graphics were no match for UT99 and Quake 3, but it was the most community focused, gameplay driven, MP game ever released, it's subsequent versions, CZ and CS:S might not be univserally popular, yet all show that VALVe still know what makes people tick.

All this awesome, and yet, VALVe isn't done, TF2 is amazing, the Day Of Defeat mod was evolved by Valve into one of the best Multiplayer WW2 shooters created, and Portal, well, the cake, it is a lie.

So, in closing, favourite VALVe game? none of them, they all are equally great in my mind.

NB. In case if you are thinking "Meh, he's just spouting to win that card, he doesn't love Valve at all!" Note this, What sort of "fake fan" would remember both his SteamID (7861 :P) and his WONID, from 5 years before (3669453, yes, thats right I remember it), none I know of

My fave Valve game is Portal. Totally. It's just awesome, has great puzzles and is funny. But I can't beat it. How could I? The computer is telling me to incinerate my Weighted Companion Cube...but I can't do that! I can't kill my Companion Cube! He's my best friend! He protected me from the hi-energy pellets and has NEVER stabbed me! I guess that's the twist in the game everyone is talking about. How to get past the level with the companion cube in tow. But I must find a way for him. He told me so. He CAN speak you cold, unfeeling mechanical voice!

I would honestly have said Half-Life 2 until I played Portal. I think Portal tops my favorites list due to me being a fan of:

- Snark
- Sarcasm
- Deadpan Humor
- Cake
- Denial of cake
- Explosions
- Lies
- Critiquing your own hairdo while falling 30,000 feet
- Jonathan Coulton

This game was simply amazing.

Edit: and even better, I could run it nicely on my rig!

I have been a fan of Valve's stuff since back in '98, where the dashing through steel corridors began. Half-Life set the standard for FPS's there on out, it was the legend, nothing could touch it. Here I am nearly 10 years later, and I find that fact still to be true, with the release of the latest episodic Half-Life 2 episode, Valve continues to set standards and show their incredibly talented staff really knows what they're doing. Through the years they made some really smart decisions (hiring those Counter-Strike guys) and were faced with many delays (the 10 year Team Fortress 2 wait), but in the end, it didn't really matter. To me at least, an avid Valve fan even after all these years. So what I'm trying to say is, theres no way I can pick a favorite out of the Half-Life saga, it continues to be just as good as the last one.

my vote, by far, has to be portal. nothing quite like playing a fresh new game and being told my companion cube does not talk to me, and will not stab me. or being told that android hell is a real place.

i have to go do science for the people that are still alive.
