What started as a fairly simple response to a distress signal of a neighboring frigate in the original Metroid Prime went on to take Samus Aran, the series protagonist, on a long-running adventure that has spanned three games. Venturing forth into the ruined worlds of the Chozo, an ancient civilization known to wield a fearsome power, Samus eventually encountered "Metroid Prime," a devilish creature hellbent on destroying Samus and absorbing as much Phazon energy as possible. After being defeated, Prime recoiled and regrouped, becoming the sinister "Dark Samus."
