Officials from Nintendo UK have announced that the Wii has become the fastest selling home console in the UK ever to reach the one million units sold mark. Quoting data from Chart-Track, the company claims that the Wii passed the one million mark in just thirty-eight weeks.

By comparison, the PlayStation 2 took fifty weeks to reach the same total in the UK, while the Xbox 360 took sixty weeks. Using further data from Chart-Track, which is usually not revealed publicly, it is claimed that, during week thirty-three this year, the Wii held a 68 percent market share of the home console market in the UK, while at the same time the Nintendo DS had a 86 percent share of the handheld market.
