Sonys sees 380 new PS3 software titles in 2007/08
Source: Reuters
_______________
TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said it expects at least 380 new PlayStation 3 software titles to become available in the current business year, on top of more than 100 titles currently on the market, driving demand for its latest console that saw a slow start.
"Attractive game software is the key to accelerate PS3 growth over the next year," Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer said at the company's general shareholders' meeting on Thursday.
Sony's game division posted an operating loss of 232 billion yen ($1.88 billion) in the past business year because of hefty start-up costs for the console, prompting investors to see the PS3 business as Sony's biggest risk factor.

380? How is that even possible? I'd be surprised if even 80 games came out in a year for the PS3.

The article said that Sony has 150 games released for PS3. Did I miss something?
Old SNES, NES, PS1 titles do not count as "titles released for PS3".

According the article they do. So what that means is that of the 380 games, 180 of them will be older online titles. I still can't see 200 boxed games coming out for the thing in 08, at least in the US/UK.
That loss figure is amazing, especially when you consider they're net income for 06 was just over 1 billion USD. It would hurt like hell to ahve one division hit you liek that.

You know (without google) how much microsoft has lost on the xbox franchise? Well just an fyi, its a few times more than a billion. In fact microsoft has lost approx. $6.5 billion dollars thanks to their console efforts....oops I almos forgot, I'm posting in a non-biased forum(lol), well that should be great then. Sony has lost a fraction of what m$ has lost, and lets say "oh no", I dunno, I don't really care that much but lets not give people wrong ideas here ok?

That is around 4 billion starting from the release of the first Xbox. Which is over how many years ago? Besides wrong ideas about what? The PS3 isn't as popular as you want it to be? Or it not as superior never mind how much you wish it where? It'll be alright DHJ you can always get a Wii.

I got the Wii and I have to say the only thing that bugs me about the whole system is a poor software lineup. I wish they could release some more games beyond Wii Brain academy...I mean come on....
Oh well live and learn Wii Golf still rocks.

The problem for me with the Wii and PS3 *is* the lineup.
Although the Wii doesn't appear (from what I've seen) to support HD, the nunchuk + wiimote is a great idea. The PS3 is a sexy beast, and I do like the construction of Sony hardware.
Currently my money is in my 360, and ONLY because of the games. (certainly not the hardware after having my first one go TU) If there was a hi-def alternative that had a good selection of games I'd certainly consider it. I'm not a big fanboy, and would definitely sell my 360 to play some nice PS3 or Wii stuff.
I wish someone would make a nunchuk for the 360.
