Rumor: StarCraft 2 Beta By Year's End?

Source: IGN
___________
Put on your skeptical goggles because rumors are swirling that StarCraft 2 is finally a reality. The Team Liquid forums have translated an article from Korean site Fighter Forum that says StarCraft 2 is on the way and a beta will be released at the end of 2007.

According to Fighter Forum, StarCraft 2 continues the story of the original and adds a new race based on Kerrigan, making a total of four races. While that wouldn't be totally off the mark, we figured the new race would be more the super-race mix between Zerg and Protoss rather than Zerg and Terran or at least the mystically advanced Xel'Naga. The three older tribes will each be receiving around two additional units.

Never played the original online, but it certainly did consume much of my youth. Problem with this one... its will be utterly impossible to live up to the hype that surrounds it. Heres to trying, though! Now if they would just announce the next Diablo game, I'll probably drop dead.

It will be like 100,000 Dudeboyz constantly mentioning how great SC(2) is.
Meh.

I am going to call BS on this. Blizzard has always listed their current projects on their website. So unless you have yet to start it, i am highly doubting this.

LMAO. I'm Korean, and I seriously suck ass at StarCraft. Of course, this might be because I'm a Korean living in the USA and not Korea.

But anyways...

The report also claims that Blizzard plans to shut down its original StarCraft servers in order to ensure the success of the sequel.
Yeah, BULLSHIT. Pardon my language, but Blizzard will probably never shut down StarCraft servers on Battle.net until they shut down Battle.net permanently. And even then, there's 3rd party Battle.net emulators that I'm sure will be posted up and running for StarCraft enthusiasts.
StarCraft still produces a lot of excess revenue given that it still sells fairly well as a classic game.
I really doubt that this article is anywhere near credible.

Not to say it isn't credible or it is. However, if anyone remembers CS was doing phenomenal and rather than run with that version of the game alone valve released CS:S. Yes I know it was built on a new engine, however they tried to copy a "classic" and it's done well compared to other newly released online FPS games of it's sort, but it has never been able to claim the same success as the original CS.

Now HL to HL2 that was simply amazing how they turned every single sequal to the original HL (Opposing Forces, Blue Shift, HL 2, HL2 EP1, HL2 EP2 (tbr)) into a HUGELY successfuly game.

Blizzard has done that with EVERY SINGLE game they have released. Who is to say they couldn't do it again?
