I may pick one up in a year or so but at the moment interest is next to nil here with me and my friends. I don't actually know anyone in the uk who owns one which is a worrying state of affairs. When the 360 launched it seemed like everyone either had one or was desperately trying to get one. I hope interest picks up soon, a market without competition will stagnate in no time.

well they sold 165,000 in the first weekend, over double the amount the 360 sold - obviously sales will go down, these articles are intentionally "scandalous" to get sites like ours to post them but its common sense not a "lack of interest". Not that im defending the PS3, but at least Sony have made sure they had plenty of stock for the launch. I think microsoft made a mess of their launch (as much as I love the console) because it ended up a disgusting ebay fiasco with people paying over the odds and getting ripped off. Anyone in the UK who has wanted a PS3 has been able to buy from a reputable source and hasnt ended up paying 50%-100% more than retail price.

Offcourse Sony has plenty of consoles in EU now, thats what you get when you delay a launch 6 months and also the rush for PS3 around the globe, hasn't been that big. So I'm pretty sure Sony has no problems keeping up with the medicore sale numbers.
There were a lot of headlines that PS3 outsold Wii and Xbox 360 in EU and we all know it was only because of the low shortage of Wii's and Xbox 360's at launch. Lets take a look at the numbers in 2 months and there will be no doubt PS3 has also will sell no where near what Wii and Xbox 360 did.
MAYBE GTA4, if it delivers IQ quality way above xbox 360 can push PS3 sales up again, but i doubt it. PS3 will become a popular system in a few years, when there are enough games and games actually make use of the high-end hardware in PS3 and at that time, i expect to be a PS3 owner my self.

Well im not sure which is better to be honest, rushing a release, having no stock, people going to ebay and getting shafted trying to get the console, or a huge delay, then plenty of stock for everyone. Both seem pretty messy to me. And the wii doesn't appear to be much better either, still very hard to get.
let's not view this with blinkered eyes over loyality to one company or another. None of them pay our bills.

Well I would prefer a launch, then having to wait 6 months.
Yeah it was hard at the beginning the get hold of a Wii or a Xbox 360, but after a month or two, it wasn't that hard and if you really wanted it n the launch date, it wasn't that impossible.
I dont know how hard it is to get a Wii at the moment in the UK, but here in Denmark, it's pretty easy actually, a lot of bigger warehouses have them and for a good price even.
