THQ Confirms New Red Faction, Mass Media As 'Tech Shop

Source: Gamasutra
____________
In the investor conference call following the THQ financial results announced this morning, company execs discussed the publisher's plans for coming fiscal year, with CEO Brian Farrell revealing plans to release a new title in the company's Red Faction franchise, adding to original IP from the earlier acquired Stuntman series.

Developed by Volition, Red Faction was first released for the PlayStation 2 and PC in 2001, while a sequel followed for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC two years later.

I am actually very excited about red faction, I really loved the original (even with the technical quirks).

The original was amazing and revolutionary in the "Everything is destructible" scene. The second was genuinely crappy though to say the least. My favorite level was the stone cross bridges over a canyon. You could actually blow up both sides of the the top bridge, making it fall and kill anyone on the lower. Actually you could destroy both bridges and make it a sniping match.

I remember carving a stairway down to the bottom of the canyon. Man that was kick ass, digging tunnels everywhere and ending up on top of the level sniping people through a hole in the cieling.

i used to play that with unlimited ammo, and would just dig a hole as far down as i could.

was also great to come upon a locked door and just say the hell with this, and then blow open a new door right next to it.

with the much much much more powerful hardware they have available now, that should make for a really fun game. also make one hell of a muliplayer too.

Haha...this brings back lots of memories. I, too, played the original a few times over. Very 'ground breaking' experience. (Pun intended. )
