Can the Wii Save the Adventure Game?

Source: GamingTarget
_________
In the 1980s and early nineties, the adventure genre was the king of computer games. In the 80s, if you were a PC owner not playing King’s Quest then you might as well be a communist. However, with the rise of home console’s popularity combined with the birth of other genres this once loved genre fell to the wayside. Since then, there have been a few resurgences with The Longest Journey series and Indigo Prophecy. However, none have recaptured the same hold on the marketplace the genre once had. Is there any way this might someday change? Might we see new installments of King’s Quest, Space Quest and Gabriel Knight someday? Just maybe with the Wii we can.

Hope so. I think we will be seeing some really inventive gaming with this console. I think it looks like a great setup and good value too.

System Specs

I think the Wii is just going to show that graphics is the wrong direction for the industry. I don't necessarily believe that a new control scheme is the right direction, however. I'm most interested in who is going to give the best tools to the developers and who is going to nurture the garage industry. Microsoft is already on both of these fronts with XNA and I've read about some cheap tools from Nintendo that will allow developers to train the wiimote without writing code. The price point is extremely low which shows signs of wanting to target smaller development houses.

Once developers are given the freedom to once again work on games they want to work on instead of being controlled by the publisher or gaming trends we will start seeing the revitalization of old genres. You can already see this happening with casual games on the cell phone. Welcome back, puzzle games!

Power to Microsoft and Nintendo for getting with this. Um.. Sony, you coming?
