'Prey' Coming to Steam
Source: Steampowered
_______________
After the demise of the Triton digital distribution system, Take 2/3D Realms announced it would be looking into alternatives, and they seem to has found one. Valve announced today that Prey will be available Thursday, November 30 on Steam for $49.95. Previous purchasers of the retail or downloaded editions of Prey can activate a copy on Steam at no cost by using their existing product key.

So why would I want to activate my copy of prey on steam? Does it even exist as multi player?
edit: Why would anyone want to pay 49.45 for an old game?
(I am full of rhetorical questions today)

I would love to get this game off Steam, but at $50? Nah.

Wasn't there just an article posted in the news section talking about how 3d realms wanted steam to be seperated from valve? Were they not talking about how steam was not good for them?

In case you loose your copy, you can always play it through Steam.
It's a good "backup" option.

Amen Erroneous. I bought Prey through Triton like 3 days before they shut down, and now I have a copy of the game with broken sound files, so it's really freakin cool that it's going to be available on steam. Though they have said they are going to ship me a free copy of the boxed game as well.

Triton was a digital distrubution platform like steam, yes. It actually shipped with Windows Media Center Edition for a little while, I don't know if it still does. But the only big game they ever had was Prey and they shut down in early October.

It would be better to buy a cheap copy online and then activate it on Steam. 49.95 is way too much. I bet the price was set by 3D Realms and Take 2.

I agree with all of you about the price,it's certainly on the steep side.
But just an informative post that the may be a few interested in this game via steam.
The download goes live in 1:48 minutes at the time of this post.

Well it let me register my regular version of prey. Now no doubt I will have to log onto steam to play it. Oh well.

I don't know if it's just me.....
But after activating my key with steam, and with the usual download which follows.
But Prey is playing much smoother than before after the update.I have not found anything but did this include a patch of some sort.
Another plus is prey is now playable without the disk inserted...

I'll bet the price comes down real fast. People that use steam and the steam forums are really vocal and will definitely voice there opinion about this price. at 24.95 or even 34.95 or something like that would make a killing on steam.
EDIT:My copy of prey collectors edition activated on the second try. The first time I didn't leave a space before the last two digets and the second time I did. I'm not sure if that was the reason or not.

Seems to work a little better for myself also. Liked how my saved games were automatically imported.
